    Hi all.

In honor of the Ultima Online Fame and Reputation

    i wan´t to make a Suggestion:

I would recommend that we have to unlock our Pledge Titels and not have them from the start.

So with our Pledge we did purchase the "right" to one day " use that title".
But we still have to earn it.

I am running around ingame with my Lord/Lady Title and somehow it feels stupid.
In UO i had to truly earn my title and my decision did also define if i had a good Karma title or a bad.

Now i only have a title because of the Money i invest. It feels wrong.

    Alternative Compromise Suggestions:

How about making our titles out of 2 Parts ( 2 words) again. Just as on the Picture above.

We have our titles , but the titles shall be always 2 parts. One is the Title, and the other the Karma/ Reputation related to the title.

So if i start the Game i can activate my Title: Lord/Lady , or whatever Title i pledged.

If i start to steal something or do good deeds or do bad things i slowly move up or down -

So we reinvoke the Negative and Postive Titles. ( This part is decided on how we Play!)

At least then one part of the Titles - the Repuration of the Title ( Karma) is decided through gaming and not Money.

Titles should be a Gaming Motivation - a Goal to Play for. Thats how i feel.

    Kind regards Myrcello

I'm totally down with gating our pledged titles...because they do feel a bit dirty.

Lord / Lady is a hereditary title so IRL you wouldn't actually earn it either. Throughout history, inheriting or outright buying has been the most common way to acquire titles.

Me, I would have liked the option to give/trade away titles. (Yes I know it's out of scope, but still). There are plenty of folks that won't use them and there are lots of folks who want to have them but can't afford to pledge that high.

I don't think that titles should be limited by your choices, because, as Spoon said, titles are usually gained through birth or marriage. BUT, I really like the idea of an added adjective at the beginning of a title that defines your "karma".

If you want to role play unlocking yours, go ahead. No one is stopping you.

    I won't be doing that.

Im not that crazy about the titles either. I don't want to announce that I pledged Lord martial that is just what I did in RL. Some may disagree and want their Duke/Duchess titles displayed also, but also perhaps that could be independent of the pledge level titles. For example 'master blacksmith' below the named Lady Majoria. So it would read if I used my pledge title: Lady Martial Majoria then on the next line it would say Master Blacksmith. For the game I like earning titles for what I've done, plus it advertises your hard work in the game. In UO my titles went up and down with my skills. I was fine with that since I knew that was just the way the game was.:)

Let me be frank about this topic.
We got several topics lately that more or less go into that direction.
And I am getting tired of them. It seems like several people suddenly realized how much money they have invested into the game. For some reason they seem to feel bad about it and try to compensate for it.
I can only guess the reasons and it's pointless to do so.
You can handle that topic how ever you wish. But do it for yourself and don't force other people to do same.
I earned my title by paying a insane sum for it. And I am not ashamed.

About the second idea: I don't like karma titles. Your can't see a person's karma in its face so why a title for something you can't measure in reality?

I'd be down with a system that required you to unlock the titles based on in-game whatever.

I'm actually looking forward to becoming

Archmage is nice. I am not against unlocking of titles.
Question is what kind of titles.
I don't like karma titles but I don't have to use them anyway.
But stuff like archmage sounds good to me.

and we'd have to add "Extra widescreen monitor" to the list of system requirements for your title :p

In my opinion, I disagree. We paid good money for these titles, and they are ours as a part of the agreement with Portalarium. For them to change it now where there is another step required in order to obtain these titles in game would be fraud. If they wanted to create something new and require in game actions to acquire it, that would be fine. Anything done along those lines in regards to titles we have already paid for would be wrong. It would be no different than if you purchased a different home from the cash store and then was told 'later' that you must meet certain in game goals before you can use your house.

Why don't you like Karma titles? I think that helps sort out what kind of people you're dealing with, if done correctly.

I will say it....yes i will do it....i hate it but i will say it anyway: immersion.
Happy? You made me do it.
But in this case i am the one that says: karma titels are negative for immersion.
As soon as i am able to see the karma of the player that is infront of me i will act according to it. Like everybody else will. Who ever tells the opposite is either lying to me or to him/herself ^^

well, people have reputations which can go on ahead of them and cause you to view them in a certain light, I think karma titles are kind of like that.

I can understand that. I think that's a good point.

However, I like the idea that I can be rewarded for my actions by getting a reputation that says "hey this guy is roleplaying a certain way". I don't know that our society pays enough attention otherwise.

Reputation titles would be ok for me.
But as always there is the problem how to measure it.
I can slay NPCs to the left and right and still be a helpful person to other players.

How many Lords of yore earned their titles?

Look at it this way, you're not only helping to fund the game development but also to help test it and suggest improvements. I think you're worthy.
