    R4 to R5

Was a big improvement for the following reasons:
    • Color improved the "feel"
    • Animations made it more "lively" - the clouds and waves were a nice touch
    • Pan and Zoom - was huge - game me a better user experience
Were I think it can improve:
    • Representations of towns - it's not that they are bad - its just that because of the art style I believe they need to be "iconic" = representative of the culture within the town - or somehow relating to the name of the town - with the use of runic - this will help people navigate
    • Windmills / can't really offer much beyond that they are not appealing / they seem "bland"
    • Ship / looks cool / why not a galleon?
    • Trees / they seem "fuzzy" - I like the changes - specifically their placement and the "staggered nature within each hex" - but is it possible to add different flavors of trees?
    -

    Design questions:
    • "limited vision" will this be a viable option
    • Will there be "moving" parts - such as animals, wagons, night/day cycle
    --

    Interactivity / user experience

Regardless of art direction - many players want a "living world" and "old school rpg overland map" in "functionality" and "user experience" with a blend of "game features" ... this would add a lot of value to the game and improve our gaming experience

I'm hoping that if this was not intended in the design goals that it could be considered.

If they can bring back the RTX demo overland map then it would be awesome... if not then it's not a deal breaker for me...

I think the R5 OM looked better than the R4 OM...

I was missing the option "I liked it better than last time." A few moving parts and less overt hexes helped a lot.

Already made plenty of suggestions in the other threads, so I'll just vote how I feel about it in its current state for R5: don't like it...still not feeling it. I suspect I'll feel that way until at least R7 where hopefully by then they will have made vast improvements. Hopefully. :)

I'm glad they added the zoom and pan functions. Makes it much less constrained than before.

I wonder if there is a way to incorporate a cartesian coordinate grid so that we can inform other players where a point of interest is. The map of Novia has lines of latitude and longitude across it so that could be one option.

The windmills : I thought they were grave markers.

Actually it would be really cool if you can have an evil city with rotating grave markers intend of windmills.

No windmills in real life look like those stick things so it's a little weird.

But I don't hate it. Make them look like real windmills, like the one you have in the game lol

meh, the art is stylized and I happen to love it. Look at the silly clouds! They are great :)

Add in random encounters, fog of war, blank map until the hex has been explored and this is a really fun cloth map like mechanism.

Maybe they're large wind turbines that feed the Tesla Towers? I do agree though they need to take out a wedge near the centre of the props so they don't look like a solid block.

They should add some "M" 's for birds.

Maybe I could like after the improvements, but I chose "back to the 3D" since I think is the most honest answer for me.

I think they should reveal who's idea it was. Then just move on. BTW, great poll.

We know that the idea was from a fan/bard from the forum (more or less). He did a cloth map (but I think his style was better).

With this budget and a millionaire or more running the show, why are fans making the decisions... and the content for that matter? I give up.

Well, I'm ok with the art direction either way.

However,I would like a lot of functionality built into the map.

    Like:
Darkness affecting the map at night restricting visibility that would be affected by light sources.
Deep woods that affect visibility like the old ultimas.
No places other then cities and "major"icons on the map unless you are one space away or have discovered them with in game lore.
    Animated monsters on the map.
    Camping.
    Random encounters on the map.
weather effects that translate to the hex as well.

Realistically, it can either be 3d or 2d it doesn't matter to me. It shouldn't be that huge a job to make smaller versions of the trees and things to populate the 3d map. You could also take birds eye screenshots of some of the towns and actually use those as the map icons...wonder if that would work?

Ahh, I was going off all the comments on here since I cannot play.... so you can be attacked? What happens to you on the map when you do get attacked?

Well, sometimes when you are walking to some point in tha map you are "attacked". So, you enter in a especial instance where you can find some monsters or animals. Actually you can run away very easily from that place and skip it if you wish, buy I think that the idea in the future is to avoid that option.
