I couldn't find a thread about this topic and I feel that it is very important. I haven't heard anything else about this and I wanted to hear some opinions on the matter. I noticed while reading the R13 Player Guide that it says "You cannot currently swim underwater or engage in combat."
I am seriously against underwater swimming and in my opinion it should not be added. Take RIFT for example, its really well done and animations look good but you can't escape the fact that it is just plain goofy. With all the realism emphasized in SotA, swimming underwater would break immersion and look silly in my opinion. We need to keep this game serious. Not to mention how would anyone swim wearing armor?
Underwater combat, no. This is sillier than swimming. I mean swinging a polearm or two-handed hammer underwater? Think about that one for a sec. : ) I dont think I need to go into detail about this, its just not cool.
The fact that in the R13 players guide it says these aren't available yet means that someone is thinking about it and that really scares me. What are your opinions?

Anything goes imo. nobody force you dive, go dungeon hunting or even level your character.

One day someone says anything goes and the next everyone is wearing bright neon colored robes with colored weapons to match. Immersion breaker.

how are we to dive for buried treasure from sos type msgs. more than likely it will be done with an air bar and no combat under water I agree that should be hand to hand only

Breaking the water surface with your whole body by definition is immersion.
I don't want true realism, I can't run anymore for more than a few dozen steps irl. I want a fantasy game that is not a pain in the ass to play.

Having said that, wearing heavy armor should make you sink like a stone, but you can walk on the bottom...slowly with scuba gear. Then place everything into your backpack, & somehow your light enough to float, Ha

Scenes need content or at least scenery to make it worth while. I'd like to see this in Episode 2.

I am very surprised that everyone wants underwater swimming. Thank you for all your input. Some really good points here. I stay my ground. I don't want it. There's more reasons than I posted but I'm all alone on this issue so I think i'll just go and cry in a corner somewhere. :(

I have discussed this with one of the devs if not LB himself half a year ago and the answer I got was that underwater swimming might get in in later episodes, but not in Episode 1

Would be quite a cool feature if encumbrance and or heavy armor forced the avatar(s) to sink to the bottom and end up "walking" instead of swimming. Having a scene with 10 or so avatars walking on the seabed for instance would make an awesome cinematic to the game. Just like the Pirates of the Caribbean scene.

IF underwater swimming were to be added it would need at least this feature. At the very least. And non of that underwater combat either. I don't care who you are, you can't be swinging a sword, two-handed axe, etc. underwater with much effect if any.

It would. The devs have actually talked about this, DarkStarr wants it that if you go into water with heavy armor you sink.
