    But wait there is???

WE have shelves and books that we can create?

What else do you need besides a Librarian? This was not a joke I plan to have his poems in my library written by the ingame printing press that comes with a certain pledge level.

haha while i appreciate the sentiment .. that book is WILDLY inappropriate for both the forum and in game audience ... it is my brain unrestrained and uncensored and kind of like a H.R.Geiger painting mated with a Clive Barker novel which gave birth to a malformed baby book that was subsequently raised by a drunk, abusive Terry Pratchette collection.

A method to manage a lot of books, like a method to find books by keywords or author. As a bonus a method to check in, check out, and sell books.

Well the RPG building i wanted to make for my town was the great library, but i think PAXlair has that covered.

PaxLair indeed has a library planned, it remains to be seen if we can use an NPC house for it (since we still have no clue how much POT owners can deco the NPC buildings) or it will be in a player owned lot in city center.

A KM keep would work nicely for it i think, since i believe the only option mentioned for NPC buildings so far was to rearrange existing decorations that they start with. Always hope for the future in that area though since it is a highly desired feature.

Well, we keep whispering in any ear we find about the importance of having those buildings more in the hands of the POT owners deco wise. We'll see how it all plays out.

Since PaxLair has 2 and a possible 3rd area, we could find ourselves wanting to spread these types of buildings throughout all the sections(POT's) that make up PaxLair, especially if we can get a seamless connection as was stated might be possible. The closer we get to spring, the more POT answers we should get.

TBH, I would much prefer the libraries to be NPC buildings because lots can expire and "poof" there is no more access to the books. It is too important to be left to any player.

I was thinking to have a shelf for every type of book. IE a poem book shelf and place them on the shelves in ABC order, rinse and repeat. I would love to have one for every POT and in them containing the founders history. My goal will be to put together my own little history book with pieces of everyone's books. I am not good at story telling so this is my way of creating something worthy.

Seems to me that at some stage town librarians can come together and form an association, which would help in all those things such as copying, book fairs, readings.
Just another fun part of the sandbox!!

Would it be a terrible idea to have all books accessible online? It could be a good promotional tool for SOTA. I realize it is out of game, but truthfully, the game is not the best place to find a specific book.

My submission to the latest Scholars of Novia writing contest. Enter it here!

Deep within the crypts of Ravensmoor, Themo crouched before a wall sconce and fumbled with a tinderbox by the dim light that radiated from the cloak about his shoulders. A shudder ran down his spine and he failed to shake off the feeling that he was not alone in the almost unnatural darkness that seemed more like a solid wall than a mere alliance of shadows.

He had been lured into the depths of this neglected tomb by a less than healthy sense of adventure and an unrelenting curiosity that would shame any cat. His pack brimmed with rancid, ectoplasmic muck that he had harvested from the frail animated skeletons which had challenged his entry in the upper rooms and the smell of it now assailed his nostrils and tested his stomachs fortitude.

The damp torch sputtered to life with exaggerated brightness, forcing back the darkness to a more comfortable distance and causing the adventurers eyes to water. A faint echo caused his breath to catch in his throat, and he spun on his heel, torch outstretched ... probing the corridor ahead of him for signs of life.

Was that movement he saw? or perhaps it was just smoke from the torch being drawn along by a draft. Fatigue was calling his otherwise keen senses into question and his back ached from the weight of his pack. He stumbled slightly as his legs trembled and weakened and his light-source slipped from his hand, noisily clattering to the stone floor.

Something was not right... he had felt fully rested and hearty just minutes earlier but now struggled to remain upright and alert. A noise he could only describe as an otherworldly gust of wind alerted him to a threat he now recognised... somewhere in the darkness ahead, a ghost was draining him of his very life-force. He knew he had to act and he had to act fast.

Feebly he juggled with his pouches, plucking out reagents as he mouthed arcane syllables that merged and brought his spell into being. A fleeing rat squealed into lifelessness at his feet, dying insects rained from the ceiling and ahead of him in the darkness the ghost let out a piercing shriek. Themo was no stranger to death magic, this creature had robbed him of his vitality but by the gods he would have it back!

The spectre came into view, drifting towards him as he chanted a second incantation. The air crackled with raw energy as a bolt of brilliant blue light leapt from his fingers, piercing the ghosts insubstantial form and splitting the stone bricks beyond. His foe hesitated and he took full advantage with a combination of life draining magic that revitalised his limbs whilst crippling his would-be assassin. The ghosts form faded and dissipated as the tortured soul once more found rest.

Themo kicked the torch further down the corridor to scout the pervasive shadows for more signs of life, illuminating the section of wall that had been struck by his arcane lightning. The brickwork had crumbled and fallen away, revealing a passageway that had lain hidden beyond. "Now i wonder what is in there." he voiced aloud, grinning from ear to ear and shouldering his pack.

Hopefully my grammar isn't terrible heh, i did not actually attend much high-school (there was adventuring to be done) and did not do allot in the way of study until i was an adult. I did however ... read like words were an endangered species so hopefully enough of that rubbed off on me (Thanks Tracy!).

    NAME!

The villager wandered the streets of Kingsport, happily whistling to himself and twirling an ear of wheat with his fingers. It had been a good harvest and he was taking his good mood to the local tavern to share with others. He came to a halt at the strangest of sights... an armour-clad outlander approached, pack overflowing with seemingly random objects ... a collection of damaged and broken weapons about his person and a dismembered deer dragging behind him. The villager felt uneasy as the stranger ran straight towards him, coming to a halt directly before him yet failing to make eye contact or offer any form of greeting. "NAME" the stranger said, which seemed quite rude but in answer, the villager replied "Hello there, my name is Jack". Without facial expression the stranger spoke once more "JLOB" and after a short interval corrected himself with "JOB". Increasingly puzzled, Jack was about to question the meaning of this statement when the man spoke once more "IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO FOR YOU?". Smiling, jack answered "Oh that is a very kind offer sir, there is actually some lamp oil that i nee.." but before he could finish, the stranger emptied his pack onto the ground in a large pile and shouted "BUY!". Jack inspected the pile.. broken shields, chunks of strange looking rock, soiled leather breaches, empty mugs, a rotting fish... all manner of seemingly unrelated rubbish. "I don't really want any of this." he muttered, prodding what looked like his neighbours best silverware with his toe "perhaps you would accept some bread in trade for.." but once again, before he could finish... the outlander scooped up his hoard of trash and ran off down the street and began slaughtering one of the local residents chickens. This troubled jack to no end and spoiled his mood somewhat "Better go find a guard" he sighed, but as he turned to leave ... another outlander blocked his path. "NAME" the newcomer stated as he fiddled with a bloodstained dagger. This was going to be a stressful evening.
