The terrain effects are improved, lighting as a whole has had a huge improvement.
Wind and other tree/grass effects will look MUCH more realistic.
Sound engine also has had a big upgrade.
Plus bug fixes and **** for the compiler.

Why would an indie studio spend all this time and effort on a brand new version of the engine "just to say" anything?

They didn't make the engine, they licensed it.

    That was a worthy correction.
Except I meant the engines within Unity.

    Better tools = better product.

Most of the people that contributed any reasonable pledge won't be crying in forums because we all want to see what these guys can make. The only people that will whine about it are the people who paid 50 dollars and didn't and don't even know what kind of game this is anyway, and wanted another generic themepark mmorpg or something

    Salutations,

In my opinion... community graphic quality complaints, voiced from the beginning of the games development, have influenced the gradual improvement of SOTA graphics.

It's hard for me to tell if it's because of community requests, or if we've seen pre-alpha where graphics are normally needing big changes, something people normally never get to see. In my mind, the dev team has improved graphics because it was part of their plan. You can't have perfect graphics from day 1.

It's possible that character creation has changed due to feedback. I really don't know.

    Salutations,

Have you seen the pre-alpha graphics of other games like Star Citizen? They were impressive and state of the art. Even so.... SC has improved upon initial outstanding graphic quality. SOTA simply did not start out with top notch AAA graphic quality. Therefore the complaints I made from the beginning. I wanted SOTA to be a AAA state of the art game to make all Ultima fans proud. What I initially saw did not promise anything close to that. Things do look better now... but I stand by my assertion that early honest complaints have forced the development team to greatly improve graphic quality and in the end it kept their 'feet to the fire', so to speak and that was a good thing.

I would like to be able to switch to isometric view with overhead camera like uo so I can play on my 6 year old laptop. Make it so.

If anyone invests in a community backed Indie game with a low budget, they should know they would never get a AAA game. That costs millions more than we have. So I guess I set the bar low.

Star Citizen is a community backed indie game. As such, its' community, which I am part, is setting the available developmental budget. Oh, over $69 Million has been pledged towards SC! If I had seen outstanding state of the art graphics from the beginning of SOTA, I would have pledged much more than I have. I didn't, so my pledging stopped. It wasn't just the early graphic that disappointed me... it was also the over the top presentation of pledging for player housing. But I digress. Oh, and yes, apparently you did set your bar low.

Please don't think I'm all negative about SOTA... I am not. I've pledged for the games development. I am not an enemy of the game. I'm just saying that I would have pledged much more if I had liked what I initially saw in its early developmental stages and the pledging emphasis not placed in areas where I could care less.

I'd say for 2 years of development this game is excellent.

And pre-alpha. Not alpha. Not beta. Not released. Pre-alpha.

The key is to make that your mantra and say it every morning and evening. Especially when the game "launches" so you have no shock value.

It can't wait until we go from pre-alpha straight to pre-beta :D

Or maybe pre-alpha to 1 release as alpha and then pre-beta :D

Far too many people are getting hung up on this "pre" bit :)

Your distaste for that mantra doesn't change the fact that the team members themselves state (or have stated) that this "pre" state is where the development is at.

Where did I say I distaste it? I actually even said to repeat it multiple times a day.

You're reading into things no one ever said. I simply said: Keep saying it so you are not disappoint.

    Cheers.
