Where are the traditional Ultima creatures?

I played Exodus on the NES a lot as a kid. So much that a few times I caught my mom whistling some of the music while she made dinner in the kitchen.

 

Mongbats are crosses between monkeys and bats; that's why they're called mongbats. monk-bat. Probaly inspired by the winged monkeys in the Wizard of Oz.

 

I disagree with this on a fundamental level. I see no reason not to include the creatures that make this world unique to itself from the very beginning.

 

Generic is okay for a start. Some games get in trouble by trying to be too creative just IMO. Though there will be plenty of chances for more unique monsters.

I will miss the cave wrasses. RIP cave wrasses.

What ever happened to the amoeboids?

@Browncoat Jayson, dragons are beautiful in this game.

 

There are a lot of creatures with concept art for the game, but just havn't made it in yet. I'm sure they are coming.

 

Gelatinous Cubes, Balrons, Orcus, ettins, titans, pincher/bradle/snatches, Man-o-wars. Would love to see some familiar ones even if they are similar to others, just evolve them to be unique in this game.

 

I agree. I think the answer is somewhere between familiar and new. One of the things that made me love Ultima was that I could play U4 and then visit the same places in U5 and U6 and U7 and see how they changed as the history of the world progressed. Familiar was fun, as well as the new things. For example, the U6 gargoyles were an (returning?) addition into the lore that later were retconned into U5, by saying the lone Sin'Vraal wasn't actually a daemon. It's things like this that give the world a cohesiveness; a binding.

 

They could at least have giant rats. No one can IP ROUS's.

 

The closest thing we have to this is slime.

 

I would so tame a giant rat.

I think flesh flayers are also a little more badass version of corpses.

I hope they don't do gold paragons like UO did. So much model/skin recycling still haunts my dreams.

 

Mongbats = Imps in SotA
Corpsers = Flesh Flayers (I think thats their name, they are in shardfalls)
Ettins = Trolls

 

I have a old gaming buddy who doesn't want to play as there are no pixies.

 

But if Ettins are now Trolls, what are trolls!?!?

 

I agree with the OP, bring back the Ultima creatures (especially the headless ), or at least as many as we can. We really need some more creature variety here, and I'd suggest drawing from the ultima lore first and add other new things after.

 

Oh, how I miss the Blood Elementals....
