    So lets start with the open danger of UO and then make a criminal system on top of that.
    Why is that so bad?

    This is not an argument but instead an attempt to argue. It does the cause of meaningful PVP no good. It weakens the cause and dilutes the otherwise sensible reasoning behind what every PVPer should want. I not only disagree with the above statements, I disavow them.

    There's a very focused and clear message of why PVP (including stealing) should be in this game, and this is not it.

    well I would go there with you but this has been rehashed over and over again through so many threads I will not reply because this will never end if I do. Please go read the other pvp posts. I ask a moderator to interject if this goes on another long pvp tangent of pk pvp.

    An open danger feel is not unique to UO. Nor can it only result from the systems and rules OF UO.

    You guys try so hard to think we can't let PKs in the game ever again.

    you will be able to pvp all you want, just flag for it. what your suggesting is pvp against lumberjacks, miners, and skinners. takes a boatload of talent to gank one of those guys. You should be exited to be able to pvp with people that would challenge you.

    Yeah some really want to forget that those words ever were mentioned.

    SotA are Ultima series AND UO combined.

    If you read it it says story and experiences of UO, not the game itself.

    And I am that lumberjack, miner, or skinner.
    I don't PVP, I run and get help.
    But I play in PK mode because I need to know who the good guys and bad guys are.

    Sorry, I dunno if you knew this, but the convention is that when you use uncertain terms in an equation, you define what they COULD mean. What you wrote is effectively "What do you think X+Y+Z equals?" and the answer is "Whatever you want it to."

    Now, if you gave us some idea what you MEANT with those variables, and maybe told me why that combination was somehow superior to any and all other combinations to create an "open danger feel", then I might be convinced that you were not misconstruing LB's comment. Take your time, I'm patient.

    Everyone who wants to PvP can do so, including some who are non-combatants.

    This thread is wishing fervently for that which we already have.

    If you played UO then you would know what those variables are. I should not need to explain Open, Danger, and UO when they are used in the same sentence.
    Maybe you should do a poll and ask what others think that means like guild wars or pk's or what?

    This is the kind of weaksauce response I've come to expect at this point in the debate. "If you tried it, you'd know." Of course, I have to have tried it 'back in the day', and to be totally effective, I have to have tried exactly what you tried, and then I'd think just like you.

    Well, I went and tried UO on a free server. Open world PvP, lots of danger all over the place. I got ganked every time I set foot ouside of town. Every time. Such fun. I have a new plan for coming to an understanding of your viewpoint. I'll just hit myself in the head with a hammer until I forget what a hammer is.

    Anyone that knows anything about UO with the words open and danger should know were talking about PK's.
    But if you need me to I'll go dig up some articles, threads, and videos to explain it further.

    I figured out an option! Everyone make 2 accounts that wants to PK. Then you can make a mule char on one, and run out in the world and let everyone gank you. Take turns it will be fun!

    For me, because I will simply not play any game where I can become a victim to another player.

    First, because I really dislike being attacked by another player without explicitly opting into the combat first.

    Second, because I never, EVER, attack unprovoked without a previous agreement to fight, no matter the circumstances. It would make me feel as bad as if I just went to someone in the street and punched him in the face for no reason.

    If subjecting oneself to that risk is a choice - and a real choice, without undue dev pressure for the players to take it - then it's fine, I will just never choose it, ever, and keep playing as if that option didn't exist.

    Which is exactly why we will have filters/flags to make all the foxes go away.
