    True :)
We will update it soon - the reason why it is outdated are modifications and historic things, but we are aware of this for a while and can't justify kicking it further down the road, indeed.

Short answer: yes, there are quite a few modifications.

Long answer: the same is the case with wordpress, however, with wordpress I maintain a patch set which is applied on deploy, so I can upgrade the version, then fix up the patches that don't apply anymore (which is always a few, but at least I keep track of the changes and can apply the logic). Thing is, with XenForo we never did that, so this will be the time to finally integrate this into that patchset also. It's a little bit of a hassle, basically running a diff against a mint version, etc.. but probably less of a hassle than forward porting those to the newest version. Then a few extra hours of testing, etc.. At least from then on, every future update will be way easier, as our modifications are kept and maintained independently.
Basically, we neglected this for too long :-/

Erm, sorry, but the Developer Depot forum is accessible to everybody, ain't it? Did you confuse this with the Dev+ forum by any chance, or am I horribly mistaken here?

One wonders how pathetic you have to be to spend your time spamming a gaming forum just to be a nuissance to someone. For what? To feel good about yourself? Sometimes I don't know whether to be annoyed or just pity the poor sods. And at the end of the day what's the result? People do their jobs like they're supposed to do anyway and all the work they've done to be annoying is gone.. *POOF*..

We used captcha on our old forum and it actually doesn't help since xrumer spam bots get right past it on auto-spam anyway. Since the posts have the botmaster canned ads from ad spinner that will probably happen here.

    Hacking Shroud of the Avatar.

Jup. Spamming a Gaming Forum probably does not generate many "Fame Points" among Hackers also.

But to be honest. I think it has one good side effect that he is doing it. Getting the Security Improved is never a bad thing. So better now then later.

I think it's pretty obvious that's why they're doing this, so I'd say that's exactly what the devs should not do. There are many other ways to combat forum spam than something as draconian as cutting off all unpaid accounts completely.

I think cutting out Potential new customers who have not paid as a solution more damaging then the little amount of spams that are still coming through.

If i would be new to the game i might want to ask some questions to forum members before i do my purchase decision.

Only th eforum parts that need an paid account should be limited for posting like the release subforum. For the general forum we need to be open to allow questions.

There has been spam every morning European time. After a few hours it gets deleted. Maybe there was more today because it is a weekend and it hasn't been as diligently monitored. Just a supposition on my part, but fact is, the captcha isn't effective.
