    Exactly! Preach, sister!

Prices to sell loot to vendors is low to "protect the economy" but hey, let's generate gold for cash on the side, then use the inflated economy to drive up rent on taxable lots (the ones bought with in game gold). So, Port will take your $$ now or get it later. You will have to pay eventually.

With all due respect, i do not see how this post is a reply to the one you are quoting. Just because an economy is manually managed does not mean it must be done in secret.

Can we at least consider looking at this another way for a moment? Think about the average player who wants some of the things from the addon store. We now have an in game item valuated at exactly one dollar. That player now has a target, they know if they can get enough gold or grind enough crowns they will have a value of something they have gathered IN GAME that they can use to trade for items that are bought from the addon store. This creates a path for the players who DONT have the money to obtain items that would ordinarily COST money but completely in game. And since there is a set value of these items that's a value that encourages people to trade those addon store items freely.

That is literally the opposite of pay to win, but rather creates a bridge between the players that pay and the players that well...play. All the others will be somewhere in between.

Well, that one was locked and the discussion moved here. Clearly Berek wants us to discuss our concerns here and not there.

I was trying to explain that a manually managed economy will lag. It was going to lag before they ever had obsidian crowns. It will not lag more now with obsidian crowns.

    You are right.
So let me roll it our once more:
In EvE online this system works fine. You can buy game time codes for hard cash and sell them for in game currency.
    Still the economy flurishs.
I am not pretending its going to be easy to do the same here. It will need a lot of monitoring and fine tuning. But it can work great.

Technically as soon as an mmo makes items and gives players the ability to trade............you can buy gold. We have all been buying gold with our pledges and with items from the addon store for a long long time...only difference is the items you buy are not quite as liquid.

To an extent, this is true. 5 Obsidian Coins now cost the same as a Cordovan Lute, which means a crafter is capped at selling an in-game crafted lute for more than 12,500 gold. There is no point, otherwise. That also means that Port now needs to make sure gathering rates and such allow that to be feasible. I havn't done much gathering in the last few releases, so I don't know how that stands.

Thing is if its more efficient to work at MCD after work and cash into crowns than spend time in game... its a fail. We will see. Not happy about this development in games, but I guess kids nowadays love to spend money rather than achieve things ingame.

The big difference now is you can go to the next vendor ingame after start and get plenty of gold. With the gear you had only a smother grind start. That is the big difference. You could craft something better ingame soon.

This is off-topic but i just thought of a concept because of your post.

Schroedinger Patch: a patch that both saves and destroys a game at the same time. (magnitude could vary, I'm just thinking of bugs so big they need hotfixing)

The economy overall yes, but PLEX didn't invalidate the need for item repairs, creating less demand for newly crafted products.
