    Hi.

    Come in.

    Sit down.

Let's make this quick shall we?

    Beer -

    25 crops- 25g + water seeds (~12g for 1.5seeds)
    2 yeast- 40g
    10 water- 20g
investment (not counting cask, that doozy is coming in a minute)
    97g

New beer sell value? 2g/per, cask sell value 80g. Profit? Lol no

    Wine
Edit: OH YEAH I FORGOT SUGAR FOR THE WINE. I had already logged off and sworn off SotA so i didn't bother to log in and verify. That changes eveything.
20 grapes- 20g (and water from above)
    10 sugar- 40g
    2 yeast- 40g again
    10 water-20g again
    Investment
    132g

New wine sale value? 3g/per, 120g/cask, profit- again, nope! (edited)

Now for casks... I didnt include these in the r55 build because the profit back then made the cask investment reasonable. But now....

    10 planks
    3 bindings
    10 wax
    symbol

To make this easy, well do 2 casks at once.

    20 boards=10 timber=5 crafts of wood
    5 wood crafts from scraps - 15 wood (@40g/ea- 600g) 60 scraps(@2g/ea- 120g)

    6 bindings = 3 ingots
    3 ingots from scrap - 6 ore (iron @ 35g/ea- 210g) 36 scrap (@2g/ea- 72g)

    20 wax- 80g

    2 symbols - 100g

Total for 2 casks, not including failures or fuel, 1112
    per cask - 556g + effort

Edit : I had a thing here about how a wine cask could pay for itself after half a year. But Beer and wine are done. Port can't math.

As far as whiskey goes, i considered that to be "brewing endgame", not the sole profit maker... i don't care if the didn't even nerf whiskey, the brew time is too long even with 2y to make it viable for a new brewer. But i digress

Anyways, cards have been shown. It's been real, it's been fun, but it ain't been real fun.

The problem is you can't base brewing profitability on growing the crops yourself - in this case, all of your PROFIT is coming from FARMING.
The brewing baseline prices should be based on the npc-price of the crops, and at least have a slight profit position from that starting point.
If you make more profit because you are farming, you're making money farming, not brewing. And there's already better, more lucrative things to make money with farming.

    Selling 500 wine casks....

In all seriousness though, you're not taking into account the player "time" requirement here at all.

Refilling 500 casks as an example number takes over two hours of crafting table staring-at-progress-bar.

At previous prices, you could make 14,000 gold for over two hours of effort, once a week, making wine.

Not to mention how long it will take you to open and remove items from 500 casks....to even get the stuff to sell....and well, the whole thing just falls on its face.

At the previous prices, it was a dubious investment at best only showing profitability at extremely high numbers of casks - at these new prices...its...well, loss-making??

    ew.

I roughly worked out the following:
    20 Grapes - 30g
    10 Sugar - 40g
    2 Yeast - 40g
    10 Water - 20g

    Total cost = 130g

If the sale price is 3g the 3x40 = 120g

So make 10g loss per keg unless you literally spend hours getting water from a well....even then you would only make maybe 20g profit per keg.

Factor the cost of the kegs and you may as well forget it completely.......factor in the time involved in plating, watering (better set those alarms so you don’t miss one) and harvesting.. oh and creating the wine and then harvesting the keg..........quite simply this is not a viable way to make any money at all..........just designed for RP I would say.

This is a perfect example of one of the biggest annoyances of many people I know who have played the game - maximum hassle, minimal reward = not a fun game

    Thats a big disapointment..

Can you guys then pls be so fair and make the cask type changeble. so we can rework the casks we have to another type like spirit in excemple.
I am working since the brewing start on getting wine casks and now i am sitting on hundrets of em...not the best playing expirience.

If there is nearly no profit and no buff from the drinks...your brewing stuff is dead...

PLs be fair to your comunity

Sadly, in my previous post on this subject, several people replied warning me of such... i (ignorantly) defended port. Wish i hadn't now, would have saved myself a lot of hassle and might not have quit tonight. But alas, when it comes to port and money, there's only one direction it's allowed to flow, it would seem...

Wait - wasn't a bottle of wine at a tavern 20 gold per bottle (or maybe more)? Was that changed too.. or is it just the player punished for his efforts in brewing. No love for the player but the NPC's are making a killing.

There are no bottles of wine. They were removed from the game.

I have a spreadsheet where I can calculate all of the costs based on whether or not you draw water, and whether or not you purchase yeast or make it yourself, etc.

Here are the numbers, for a single cask. Assume a cask costs a minimum of 1000 gold to craft the cask if you buy all the mats (may be more as wood prices go up due to the changes in siege drops).

All of the water harvested by hand for cask, crops, and yeast:
    Edelmann Beer: 65 & 1/3g per week
All other Beer: 63g per week
    Wine: 32g per week

All of the water harvested by hand for cask & crops, yeast is purchased:
    Edelmann Beer: 37 & 1/3g per week
All other Beer: 35g per week
    Wine: 20g per week

All of the water is harvested by hand for the cask, purchased for crops (Yeast is the same price either way in this case):
    Edelmann Beer: 9&1/3g per week
All other Beer: 4&2/3g per week
    Wine: 10g per week

    All of the water purchased:
    Edelmann Beer: -37 & 1/3g per week
All other Beer: -42g per week
    Wine: -10g per week

So even if you draw the water, it's going to take a very long time to cover the cost of the cask if you bought the wood & metal required to craft them. If you purchase the water, because honestly any other option is insane, you'll just lose a ton of money.

an easy solution is to reduce the amount of yeast by 1 across beer and wine? or cut water by half and remove 5 crops from each?

I'm not even sure what's happened to the existing bottles. The ones I had stored seem to be gone.

:( I actually have stored quite a bit of wine and have them as decos. I will not be happy if they're just deleted from the game.

    Thanks for the info, Mishikal.
