We have a discussion going in another thread about new POT decorations.
    https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com/forum/index.php?threads/enhancements-for-dynamic-pots-ideas.66148/

One idea is for a pre-fab gustball field. See the following quotes for this idea.

So now on to the design ideas. Can we design a Rustic and an Ornate pre-fab gustball field design? The goal is to recommend one to be craftable (rustic) and another to be in the add-on store (ornate). I suggest we design this with existing deco items (fences, pavers, etc.)

Below is a design we did a few months ago to fit in a city arena basement and on a village lot (need to reconfirm this design DOES fit in both situations (it's on a castle lot right now).

A rustic small gustball field design in PaxLair at the Castle lot.
    Area: PaxLair (POT_forest_metropolis_01_template) Loc: (-242.8, 75.0, 222.3)

So this first design can become a "small regulation" size gustball field.

We can probably make a larger design for a keep arena basement/town sized lot too, which would be the "large regulation" size gustball field. I suggest we work on the small regulation size first.

Yet we should agree on the "regulation" size -- as it will make our gustball tournaments more consistent as we rotate matches between towns. Just like football/soccer, the field dimensions are fixed for all regulation fields.

    Gustball Field (7 by 11):
    • moveable placement deco item (not a house)
      • can be placed as POT deco and house lot deco
    • fits in a city arena basement
    • fits on a village lot
    • court size: 7 by 11 small pavers
    • goal size: 2 pavers wide
    • no lighting
    • gates opening inward at mid field on either side
    • no seating (people can add that as desired, but not part of the pre-fab deco item
    • pavers in center area to mark ball and team locations - designed for 3-person teams (QUESTION: Should these be baked into the pre-fab or leave these pavers out so player can put their own pavers in to mark team positions ... allowing for different size teams and starting grid locations?)
      • center (for ball)
      • team starting positions (right and left teams):
        • center - 1 paver space away from center paver
        • left rear - 1 paver left and back - touching corner of team's center paver
        • right rear - 1 paver right and back- touching corner of team's center paver
    • fences around the field (outside the court size dimension) - hopefully will still fit in a city arena basement
    • goal posts at each end
    • people CAN place more deco on the prefab item, e.g., add lighting, put in more pavers, put in blocks temporarily for winner's medal ceremonies, etc.
Decoration options (this is where we need creative designs)
    • Rustic
      • wall types
      • team starting position paver types (or leave these out - see question above)
      • field paver types (if any, or leave open to expose grass/ground)
      • goal posts type (blocks, etc.)
    • Ornate
      • wall types
      • team starting position paver types (or leave these out - see question above)
      • field paver types (if any, or leave open to expose grass/ground)
      • goal posts type (blocks, etc.)
Please offer ideas/comments in this thread.

Can some people make a few more gustball fields for the small regulation size so recommendations can be made for the Rustic and the Ornate types.
    • Post locations here and images if possible.
    • Maybe people can work together in game to come up with designs, so every interested person doesn't have to make their own gustball field.
    • Maybe we can work together and come up with the best options faster this way.
    • Maybe have some design parties / events in some of the towns? Have people participate? Have a discord or teamspeak channel to talk quickly about design ideas.
    • Mention here that you or your group are working on a design, and where if you like, so people can come watch or participate.
When should we have our designs ready? Well, honestly a feel a little sense of urgency to come up with some recommendations for the Devs sooner than later.
    • Deadline: Monday night (October 10)
    • This is not a competition; it is a community collaboration; it helps improve the game.
Please pass the word about this to your friends and mates. I hope this is fun to do, and not too hard.

    Thanks!

Once implemented won't the magic movers take care of this for you?

Magic Movers is a possibility yes... but not probably for POT Deco. Magic Movers would be for a House Lot and all things on it. People would still need to accurately design their gustball field to regulation sizes, which is tedious and error prone.

For the pre-fab design, we can have simple regulation size fields, so our tournaments are easier to go around to different locations. Plus the field becomes one deco item even on a house lot, not 20-50 deco items.

Magic Movers is a great idea to consider though! Especially if someone makes a really, really cool regulation gustball field on their village lot, and pulls it out for that town when we want to play gustball there.

Magic Movers may be a design tool a ways off in the distance. The pre-fab might come sooner than that, I would hope.

The reason prefab kits like this would be great is that they would be a single placeable object that would not eat up the item limit of smaller towns.

Here's a question.. why specifically a gustball field? Why not generic tournament fields which can be used for anything, including jousting when and if it comes in the game?

    Oh good question and idea!

One reason for gustball field is that it is a game we play now.

Maybe a Tournament Field could be a simple variation of the gustball field. More options is great.

Maybe the gustball field is like a tournament field, with narrow open ends and some gates in the center.

Can we do an ingame design of a tournament field too and see what the differences would be?

For Monday, a gustball design would still be a good effort to conclude.

A tournament field could be theoretically adapted to any number of designs for different types of games. Maybe a good line of thought would be what types of decoration could enhance a tournament field to make it adaptable to whatever players come up with.

Even for gustball, for instance, there might be standard rules and nonstandard rules with different game fields, right?

Well, I'll post again later after I've had some time to put some thought into it. But a good first step I think is to think about components of a field.

    You obviously got the fencing,
    [IMG]

And dividers, which might be draped like this,
    [IMG]

You can have special standing booths for the people of honor or those running the tournaments, while commonors can sit in regular bleachers,
    [IMG]

Also notice the nice pennants to make the occasion more festive -- I'd really like to be able to decorate a POT with all the pennants already in the game and in places like Central Brittany, Kingsport, and Aerie. Different color pennants, as well as alternating colors would be nice. They're especially nice for fairground decoration.

When we can put the different coats of arms of the two guilds/teams competing it will help to set the stage,
    [IMG]

Beyond that, I suppose, you'd want something other than a standing divider that can mark a division in a field, which doesn't block movement. Something low that people can step over.

Also, when I think of games using the Gust spell, I think of the centeredness test at Argentrock in U8: Pagan, where you have to stay on a platform as gusts of wind try to push you ff,
    [IMG]

This makes me imagine American Gladiator type platforms, that you need to use a ladder to go up to,

Oh yea, and obviously for something like Gustball, or any type of ball game or game which has a goal, you want to be able to set up some type of box, where the goal might be set in. So if someone blows the ball into the box on the other side, they win the point, etc.

A field could theoretically be gated on each side, and then someone playing a game with goal boxes could open the appropriate gates and put the goal boxes behind them.

So lets say a typical fence would have four gates. A gustball setup would open gates on two opposing ends, then place down the boxes on those ends.

A traditional gustball field will require two awnings or goals centered one on each end. a fence is NOT reccomended as there are rules on stepping in and out of bounds and knocking the ball in and out of bounds. The field size itself is about the size of 2x4 giant pavers or 3x4 if you are pushing it for a larger field. The outside boundaries are clearly marked as well as the "half court". The fields usually have 3 spots in a triangle formation to designate the starting positions for up to 3 team players per team.

The area around the goal posts should be outlined as well to mark the area the ball lands in and clearly define where the "goal" is.

Goals, if they existed as separate objects, might be made to interact with Gustballs and sound a horn/light up/spray confetti when a team scores. Then it would be obvious when a point is awarded. A kobold version might even have a rotary-plate counter to show off the current score.

Yea it would be nice.. but something subtle I'd hope. ;)

They could also have the goals theoretically interact with guild/team banners. So lets say a team banner was at the bottom of a mast when the game starts. And then the banner raises every time a point is gained, and lowers if a point is somehow lost. The team who gets the banner at the top of the mast is visible as the winner.

Heh, speaking of public games in general, it would be fun to create a gauntlet course like this,

...using different types of hazards found in game dungeons. We have the spikes so far. The hazards could also theoretically be placed on game courses like gustball fields to make a more dangerous game... fighting arenas, too...

Great ideas. Can these be created in game this weekend and shown as working models, minus any game mechanics needed? Then the dimensions, design items, etc. can be catalogued.

So we need to move beyond ideas and actually demonstrate the ideas if we can. That's the spec I think we need.

Again, we are working on Rustic and Ornate designs.

I have created a temporary in game blueprint on a town lot in Lockbrier (Area: Lockbrier (POT_forest_metropolis_01_template) Loc: (8.8, 39.4, 280.7)

I have also done a basic field markings template.

The play area is 2x4 giant pavers, with a boarder the width of a long red rug. Bleachers along one side of the field and a podium on the other. The podium is a marker for where we could really use a watchtower height platform for an announcer and or streamer to climb for a birds eye view of the game. If the entire prefab field could be slightly raised (about the height of a trunk) then the inside of the goal area could be lowered so that the ball would drop into it, eliminating any argument on if the ball made it into the goal or not (desync happens). Feel free to drop by and offer any suggestions on adjustments.

Optional luxuries that may go beyond a basic design include built in lighting and radio broadcasts, a scoreboard, dyable uniforms sold separately, cheer leader pompom thingies and some form of mechanic that actually registers if a gustball enters a goal area.

EDIT: can leave this lot up for about a week before i need to return the borrowed deed and materials (TY @Roper Docholiday , @Night Fury , @Acaelus Fireharp and @KuBaTRiZeS )

Field for everything - with customization options - seems like a better idea. Having only a gustball field makes it quite limited to only one event type.
