    Hi all.

    Just a Suggestion, an idea.

But as many complain a little about the random Encounters pulling one in i had this Little idea how to give some Options before you get pulled in.

Sort of a RPG - Old Style way.

Have a look and give your opinion

    Kind regards

    Myrcello

    You forgot Bribe!

Though it would all have to have a chance of failing, so you get pulled into the scene anyway, and then have to run or hide within the scene. And genuine ambushes on you wouldn't give you the option of hiding or running, because they trap you.

We have to see how roving encounters will work out...

Make getting away harder as well....maybe a cool down before you can exit the scene....

Neat idea though, I like it.

Oh Myrcello that is so cool. I know it's just an example, but wow it is a terrific beginning of ideas that can be expanded on. Hopefully
others will jump on the bandwagon;) I've always wanted to see a demonstration of what random encounters could be like.:)
Of course that is so much more than what they are now.

Great idea! There could also be a percentage chance for you to be able to flee or hide - maybe according to the level of the hero and the enemies.

Great idea Myrcello, I like it :)

I agree, I think there must be a chance of failing.

    I love it!

Fast interface and if you are finally pulled into a scene at least you had the chance to avoid the encounter.

That would be a vast improvement.

..... or just a checkbox under the Options menu saying "bypass all random encounters".

    I LOVE THIS IDEA.

It let's you try to avoid encounters you either think are too strong for you or so weak they are a waste of time.

Plus the special options give you different starting points in the random encounter.

For instance, if you clicked wait and see on the dead body, you start from a distance of the body so you literally have to wait. If the body moves. ..you know it's a trap and you can do as you wish.

If you click inspect the body, you start right next to it leading to an attack!

If you click run and you fail, you should start with a movement penalty or something.

You could really make the random encounters more dynamic this way.

If bandits are luring in the woods ready to jump text that passes by there must be a chance that you can't avoid the encounter so bypass them all should not be an option.

So old skool, absolutely brilliant! I also second refish's & Morkul's caveat, though.

I could see it... Oh you ran into bandits you say? Not I, I used the checkbox that allows me immunity to being attacked. Seems fair.

Fairness. How is fairness even an issue?

How about we have an option, instead of foisting your values on others?

Why MUST there be a chance? I didn't see it in the rulebook.

Because when people play games together they like to all play by the same rules, crazy I know.

OK so your rule is that everyone has to have random encounters.

My rule is that everyone has to PvP, full loot.

How do you feel about that?

I just begs the question, what should the rule be.

My suggested rule is, you can choose to do these, or not.

Some people are about forcing game mechanics onto everybody. My view is that options are often - but not always - a good thing.

Encounters, IMO, are a perfect thing to make optional.

Sorry for hijacking your thread Myrcello, I'll stop now. I think you're on to something good.

I didn't think it was about making everyone happy, I thought it was about making a good game. To change a fundamental part of the game to optional is ridiculous. This would totally unbalance the game...

See my post about not having an encounter do to using a toggle...it doesn't make sense at all.

This is just as bad as the you shouldn't be slowed on the over land map, you shouldn't have to use the overland, or the encumbrance sucks because I can't carry everything.

The ops idea is great, let's get back to it.

Not only unfair but if they tie encounters to different quests and or main story it would be plain out wrong from a RPG perspektive. And if you can't be pulled into random encounter you would also be immune to PvP even if you are in a PvP area, you simply go over it and remove a whole strategic part of the game.

It's bad game design to do that. The team has to be very careful to not cater to every demand for options.

Now as for the dialogue boxes with a chance to get out with in game mechanics? I love it.
