SotAwiki Update Thread

Just a note, I've updated the NPC town entry with a list of (what I believe is) all the NPC towns in the game.

I then went through and updated the lot data for all of those towns (Much of it was incorrect or missing).

 

This page is named incorrectly: http://sotawiki.net/sota/Caravaggio's_Wolf,_the_Art_Dealer

His name is Carvaggios Wolf, not Carvaggio's Wolf. Nor is "the art dealer" part of his name. The page should redirect to "Carvaggios Wolf", and the link on the Ardoris page should be fixed to use the correct name spelling.

 

...or the lack of apostrophe is a bug.

@Alley Oop Looks like a typo on the web page, he's always been Carvaggios Wolf in game.

Most of that page needs removal anyhow, as the obsidian vendors and Carvaggios all simply open up the crown store now. Hopefully they get removed from the game in R63.

 

While folks are reviewing things, I could really use some feedback on what we want to do with the monster stat block. For instance, I just put a page up for Envy Angel.

Here are the current pieces of information we display:

• First Seen: Ok
  
• Alignment: Ok
  
• Spawn Locations: Currently, this is just a text field. I'm thinking of changing this to a query, so it will automatically list scenes that have a Creaturebox for the monster in that scene.
  
• Experience: Same, thinking of changing this to a query that will shown the range xp based on Creaturebox info.
  
• Gold: Again, query to display a range.
  
• Magic Items: I don't see a reason to split this. Instead, just change this to single "Items" entry and query to populate it.
  
• Special Loot
• Strength: Considering deleting, as we don't have this information available to populate.
  
• Dexterity: Delete
  
• Intelligence: Delete
  
• Health: Query to populate range.
  
• Defense: Delete
  
• Focus: Delete
  
• Attack Skills: These fields are where we want to note if a creature has special attacks or defenses. Probably ok as is, but if anyone has a better way to show these I'd be up for hearing about it. Should we just have Special Skills and eliminate the different boxes?
  
• Defence Skills
• Special Skills
• Resistance (Physical, Magical, Electrical, Cold, Heat, Chaotic): Should we show these as "High/--/Low", since we don't have numbers?
  
• Damage (Physical, Magical, Electrical, Cold, Heat, Chaotic): Again, we don't have this information, so should we just delete?

Anyone else have opinions on what we can do to clean up these pages?

 

A long time ago, I spent a bunch of time updating creature boxes for various scenes, and I ran into a problem -- You can have creatures with the same name, but entirely different stats, across scenes. So "hardened skeleton mage" or whatever in the Spectral Mines is very different from one you might find in another scene. They have different spell options depending on their "level" (Tied to the level of the scene?), different XP, etc.

give pretty good examples of the XP differences at least.

 

We do have the table to show values in individual scenes. I'm just trying to decide what we actually want to have in the main Creature infobox. Almost all of them are blank currently, so obviously they are not worthwhile as-is.

 

So the only relevant generic fields from that list are probably First Seen and Alignment. Everything else I believe is scene specific.

 

spawn time of year. this is going to be inexact, it may be easier to say "in late winter near sequanna's day, when krampus stops stalking north paladis" than a specific date changeable every year.

Good idea. I'd already created a template to put on seasonal content, so having something similar here would be good. For the big bosses (Envy Angel, Krampus), they are on a pretty strict schedule, but others (Aether creatures) are more fluid.

Not necessarily. Most creatures are of a given "type", and share things like a tendancy to have strong resists towards one school, or a special attack that they can perform. The scale of these changes, of course; Bears can almost always Maul, for example, but higher tier bears do a lot more damage.

I've pared it down a bit, and got a sample put together in this temporary template. Its not yet pulling from queries, but that is the ultimate goal. This should really be where one looks to get an idea of what the creature is capable of, and then look at the scene list to get specifics for where certain drops are, hp ranges, etc.

Let me know if you see anything that doesn' t make sense.

Also, for creature images, is there some official SotA concept art to use for the creatures, or would you just want screenshots?

Just to contrast, they gave Fiona FitzOwen's crossbow -60% poison effectiveness.

I get this from work when its am image from Discord. Possible you have a firewall blocking something? Looks fine on my phone.

 

Don't think so... Just using Firefox on my desktop. There's plenty of images people post that work fine. Can someone paste the actual URL the image is linking to?

 

If it is going through your work internet, it is possible they might block Discord as "Social Media" or who knows what else. The people who set up web blocker categories are just as likely to list it as Pornography because it's possible somebody somewhere posts porn images on a Discord channel. Try right-click View Image?
