I have a confession to make. I've been known to steal carrots and books.

When the Oracle asks me about the Path of Truth, I truthfully respond that I have not been living according to the Virtue of Truth. She then rewards me cor being truthful with gold.

Duel Personae often try to muddy the waters . If it seems to good to be true then be wary.;)

It's not a paradox. All the Oracle requires of you is accuracy.

All those angry glowing red eyes!
I figure she hiding that she's violent, or evil, or most likely both!! I have dubbed her 'Mother of Sauron' !

So I have not gone to visit her except on the Isle of Storms to get the rift to activate.

I don't trust the oracle either... I've read 1984 and see it in the real world to be far too wide spread and in action for my comfort. I thing that oracle-thingy is creepy.Who knows what really is behind that total observation.

why do people assume the oracle has ill intent? most of the inhabitants of new britannia seem to trust her, and she's been around for generations without any claims of abusive behavior or whatever.

Does she agree with your assessment? I've been playing with the test a bit and answered no on one occasion, and the Oracle disagreed with and awarded me nothing.

The Oracle was around in 1968, called Alphy and was Barbarella's computer.
It was quite benevelent back then
The face has only appeared in recent releases.

Barbarella's brain wave detector also looks familiar :

I just don't trust a machine trying to track my 24/7 and trying to tell me how to behave.

That's what I do ... who or what is behind the oracle? And what are the intentions? That's what me (and my character) want to find out. This IS a game, after all :D

Still don't know why being a thief affects truth virtue.
I'm not shady, dishonest, or deceitful, I blatanly yoink things from shop counters right in front of puzzled NPCs.
If anything, I'd think it would affect love...:p

She did agree with my answer, although I do not agree with her judgement of Jaan's acts. "Vegetable merchants" have carrots out on display, but none for sale. Meanwhile, all the top tier Cooking recipes require carrots.

I'm not sure if that is intentional, but it certainly forced Jaan into making some "ethical decisions" and she decided that feeding people was more important that a crudely mechanical assessment of "virtue."

So I will say she has certainly been an inspiration for roleplay.... :D

What he said. The Oracle's judgement is judgemental in a very particular way.

The paradox is in being rewarded for telling the truth about my "dishonesty."

Jaan isn't sure what her intent is... but it seems clear that the Oracle judges only on actions, and not intent. Of course, it couldn't be any other way. ;)

So I guess what I'm saying is that I'm not assuming the Oracle has ill intent so much as I am assuming she is intended to be a somewhat controversial character, to say the least... :D
