He could probably get an arrow through the eye-slits too and eyes are pretty squishy.

Uh... how do you know... wait nevermind!

Glad everyone liked the video, apparently it was popular enough to warrant a second thread!

Anything that anyone can do slow, they can also do fast :> It just takes a lot of skill.

I thought the video was silly. It's like some guy decided to mix parkour with archery. What's next hang gliding with a polearm? SOTA doesn't need to emulate this.

I didn't watch the video but have to agree on power. I would like to see advanced archery skills but rapid fire with a high powered bow isn't likely.

Also to comment on penetrating chain.. depends in part in how the chainmail is built. There are a couple different styles. I built a chain shirt myself awhile back and honestly it would be easier to penetrate that with an arrow than it would leather as the links aren't riveted or welded closed. They're open and it doesn't take a lot for them to twist open. Chain is great for slashes.. not so great for punctures. :)

Cmon... That guy is badass! With that much skill, I'm pretty sure he could shoot bigger bows if he wanted to, wtfo? If you all don't think he could kill your ass with arrows, then please gimme some of whatever you're smoking. lol.

P.S. In a fantasty setting, I guess that's where "special" arrows would factor in?

The way combat works I'd expect archery to get unlimited ammo. Imagine full-automatic fire from a bow! How this could make the PvP-duels even more actionlike!!!!!1111 ;)

I'd expect ammo will not be unlimited.. and that's the way I'd like it to stay.

Ack, sorry. In my excitement I didn't see that. My comments in OP were slightly tongue in cheek.

On Friday you thought it was interesting, now it's silly? Ok....

Do you think / know if chainmail was left with open links historically? Obviously people don't need to put in the extra effort today if they just want a chainmail shirt for looking cool.

Just as well arrows are limited. I think the devs know what they are doing, so no need to harass them for personal desires. ;)

I am not aware of when and how different methods of closing the links came to be. I can speculate rather confidently though that it would've been more expensive due to the extra work hours.

When I build mine.. I had bought the rings from someone I knew. Then I literally worked on it up to 8 hours a day for entire week.. just opening and closing.. open.. close.. open.. close.. it's actually relaxing to a point but also quite, quite tedious. Just for one simple shirt. I forget how many 10s of thousands of rings there are.. I had it figured out at one point. At least 20,000+ So you might imagine how long it would take closing all those rings.

It might guess that any mass produced chain might be left 'open'. Anything more advanced may have been reserved for the wealthy.. similar to plate armor in that regard.

Can probably look it up. Shouldn't be too hard to find info on when different techniques were developed.

I wind heavy gauge wire around a pole at the steelworks, then cut with a grinder along the length ^.^ Is a good way to get many links ready fast.

Yeah I could've bought the wire and cut it myself but I just decided I didn't want to do THAT much work.

Just doing a little reading.. riveted mail existed as early as pre-Roman times apparently.. but so did other types.. seems mine would be called 'butted links' as the ends are together but not riveted. Riveted rings apparently were common after the 14th century.

Apparently chainmail made from butted links like mine weren't very common except in Japan.

I guess we should assume then chainmail in SotA is either riveted or forge welded. Which would make them somewhat better against arrows.
