Not much surprise that the median person was 12 when Ultima III shipped.

Now, 30 years later, make sure we get a game to attract 12 year olds, rather than all the old people on this forum. (myself included)

I'm open to placing a virtual prosperity tool bet with anyone here... name the bet and I'll look at it...

So far Gabriel Nightshadow and I have made a bet that he takes 45-49 to beat my choice 35-39 in a 24 hour race. Once that time has been reached, then we'll see who wins a virtual reality prosperity tool of their choosing from our SotA online store ;)

And I'm open for other virtual item bets...

 Now pasting the mid stretch a great pack of 4 have pulled together with 30-34 leading by only a nose with 40-44 & 45-49 now contending for 3rd closely followed by 35-39 as the trailers spread out behind the packs 25-29 leading 50-54 by a shoulder followed by 55-59 ahead of 60-64 with 15-19 in tow:cool:

"At this point the crowd here is going wild as with only 78 players reporting out of SotA's over 81,000 forum members,
it's still anyone's race here at our beautiful "SotA Downs Race Track" today"

OK kiddies, I am leading the geezer group. Actually, the numbers should be weighted in favor of the older, experienced folks.

In Germany they have alot of 30+ Parties...

also the teenagers have a different name for it:

Gammelfleischparty - means "Rotten Flesh Parties"

But hey i think that at the end this pole is missleading. Why? Because mainly us hardcore fans from the early UO Ages are to find in the forum. I am sure the younger ones will show up more to release .

The only problem is we might not want to play a game 12 year olds are into. Times have changed my brother. Back in the day you had to have an imagination. Ultima II was a beautiful masterpiece to me back then. Today, not so much.

Kids lika the eye candy these days. Although Minecraft is an anomaly in that regard. I suppose for Minecraft it's all about the freedom to control their own environment. To craft and mold terrain in a place where parents leave them alone and don't tell them what to do. :)

@Time-Lord Fantastic poll BTW. Very interesting question and well executed.

I think young adults (12 - 20) would be fine in this game; did you see the Lick-ening?

On a serious note - I do think 12 - 20 demographic could like this game but you would have to place a lot more emphasis on "customization" ... its all about "unique self representation" for the little tigers :) .. and yes this includes the 20 year olds :p (I used to work with a lot of young adults)

and a concerted effort on hobby/mini game mechanics possibly

Back in the day, you had a choice between playing the Ultima games and playing Super Mario Bros. on NES. Some kids played Ultima, many played Super Mario Bros. Today? Different choices, but same thing.

    Ahhh "The Lick-ening". Yes, I'm afraid I can't un-see it. :)

But you are right, the crafting/customization element of the game can be quite appealing to a broader audience. I would personally love to see this game appeal to the broadest audience possible, but only if it could do that as a natural side-effect of its intended design. Not as a deliberate attempt to water things down to sell more copies.

I am confident that the later would never be the case, and am hopeful that SOTA will be to this generation what Ultima was for mine.

    Agree

    - part of the fun for me when I first played Ultima 5-7 was being lost :) ... and what the younger generation of players has going for them is "multi-player online"
