"Elves as a playable race", how does it fit in New Britannia lore?

Right, perhaps I wasn't clear in my wording. The Vertas were the ones created by the Obsidians and people called them "elves" because they reminded them of the elves they used to know from long ago, who apparently vanished or went into hiding. (No one has seen a "real" elf in so long that they are merely legends now - at least until their apparent re-emergence in the present )

China seems to have a very good example of a Dwarf housing and kingdom idea...

Bringing this back to elves - I asked a question in this week's Q&A thread to see if maybe we can get a few more details.

It might be that they won't tell us anything anyway, because it's "story-related" and therefore a big secret. But for some people, knowing how player-elves are going to fit in to the lore might be important to their decision whether to support the stretch goal.

(Personally I won't support the goal either way, but I'm still very curious to know how they plan for it to work if that goal is reached. If I might meet PC elves in-game in the future, I want to know how they got there.)

I get it - there are lots of good-looking elves out there!

It's not their looks I'm concerned about...

Ooh, you posted Alyn Shir from Kingdoms of Amalur. Easily one of my favorite Elven chicks in all of gaming. Well done ;) Allow me to add a couple.

I really hope they don't have a "pretty elf" player version. Let the Vertas have their own story, a bit alien to the human perspective. At the least, it will stop the wall of image posts...

As much as i like the female form those bare patches of flesh can lead to nasty bloody gashes in combat. I prefer something like this :

Something to keep in mind about the stretch goals. There is no time line set for reaching or not reaching a goal.
What I mean is, even once episode 1 is released, the stretch goals will still be running. Maybe a goal might not make it til several months after episode one release, as people are no longer upgrading pledges. Maybe it won't make it til episode 2 or even 3. But, in the long run, eventually, all the stretch goals will likely fund. Only reason I see it not happening, is if the game fails. Which I highly doubt. Or they have enough other things that people want to throw their money at, that the stretch goals become secondary. I'm confident, we will eventually have elves as a playable race.
Although, I might be willing to support another race stretch goal as well. I believe someone mentioned orcs :)
    And orcs are awesome

For me first at all its not how do they have to look like. In which way are they involved right now? If they are only seen as enemys to the land it should be hard to play them. They should not be able to enter towns as example, it should be a hard way to get a good reputation. Another way is building their own Towns and so on....
I don´t know how this fits to general plans for the game. Its all about lore and roleplaying.

Even if the Elves weren't regarded as enemies, strolling into a (human) town as one should be a very different experience. Some townspeople would regard you with awe, or fear or even hatred. A few may even refuse to speak with you much less sell you something.

One neat thing I'd like to see - if it fits the lore - is that viewing using elven sight would render the landscape or scene somewhat off-kilter. There's a true story about the famous impressionist painter , Claude Monet, which illustrates my point. Here's the link, it's a somewhat eerie but lovely story :

    http://petapixel.com/2012/04/17/the-human-eye-can-see-in-ultraviolet-when-the-lens-is-removed/

Late in his life, Claude Monet developed cataracts. As his lenses degraded, they blocked parts of the visible spectrum, and the colors he perceived grew muddy. Monet’s cataracts left him struggling to paint; he complained to friends that he felt as if he saw everything in a fog. After years of failed treatments, he agreed at age 82 to have the lens of his left eye completely removed. Light could now stream through the opening unimpeded. Monet could now see familiar colors again. And he could also see colors he had never seen before. Monet began to see–and to paint–in ultraviolet.

As I understand it elven sight is the same as human sight. You only get night sight by taking moon.

Here's a question.. Not sure if it was touched on already but, Long Medium or Short pointed ears? Which do you prefer?

    Short Elf Ears
    [IMG]

    Medium Elf Ears

    Long Elf Ears
    [IMG]

Personally I like the traditional short pointed ears but I'm old school. I say if elves do become a playable race, this should be determined by the player during the character creation. Have the ears be one of the definable attributes. ;)

    EDIT: Added examples.
