It only takes a few seconds to quit to the main menu. Then go do your business and then get back in exactly where you stood. It's really not that hard. Seriously, hit ESC, click on Exit to Menu and then Exit to Menu again. Real Life Happens, but it only takes 2 seconds to do this.

Being flagged for Open PvP is a dangerous choice: you gotta watch your back at all times since you explicitly removed your protection everywhere in the game. Having said that, I have proposed that the Skill Trainer needs to be changed into a signed transaction vs. real-time respec. That is, you play with whatever build you want to create and only when you Sign Your Name are you charged and the skill respec takes effect. Currently it is done in real-time and on-the-fly. It may be a moot point anyways when Guards start doing their jobs.

And that's exactly how it should be. Your choices have consequences. If you want PvP on-demand, there are (or will be) 6 other ways to enjoy PvP whenever you want. The Open PvP flag is really only for those that understand the consequences of removing their protection.

Nope your not saying that...........your PvP Flag is. Maybe you need re-educating in the do's and don'ts of operating in a hostile PvP world. Or maybe your just not quite ready for it and should remove your Flag.

That's the funny thing about PvP, you don't get to decide when you get to stop. Unless you removed yourself from PvP. You either attack or get attacked.

If you are not attacked, it's not by your choice, it's choice of everyone around you.

If you want to engage in any activity while flagged you should be prepared to stop that and PvP. Because you are flagged.

Anything beyond that is imposing rules on PvP. Currently, SotA has no rules on PvP beyond flagged or not flagged. Guards only create areas that push PvP to a different location. Virtues put rules but that still falls under choice of the other players attacking.

If you wish to engage in anything other than PvP, unflag, it's the only sure way. Setting an AFK flag doesn't remove PvP. Standing at a crafting table doesn't. Not sure why anyone would want to have a big neon sign saying "hey I am open PvP" while all your skill points sit unassigned, in front of the skill trainer.

Even a lazy wolf will eat the sheep that walks over and puts it's head in the wolf's mouth.

But there are things called etiquette. And you're right about my PvP Flag, and I don't care who tries to kill me, or who does. I am just defending the argument that's it's the kids who can't fight fairly that Gank/PK/Grief others because they have very little skill otherwise.

I mean, just now I got jumped by two members of Society of Shadows at the Skills Vendor in Owl's Head. And they got dropped. Both of them. I even let one of them get me to 50% before hitting him back. I am using the lame Death/Fire/Ice Mage Build to DOT/Kill others, and heal myself in a fight. It takes no skill.

MY whole thing is that MORE people would enable PvP and have fun PvP in the game if there was etiquette.

I don't mind dying. It's freaking pre-alpha, if someone gets their jollies off ganking people that are AFK/Vendoring, and THINK they have some PvP skills because of it...I am here to say that is 100% false.

For you, there is consensual PvP, for others this is everything they want.

100% agree. It's just plain and simple etiquette which people lack these days. No one wants to fight fair. It's pre-alpha though, and if those are the only skill you all have in PvP, then I can't wait until release to dominate these pups.

As for your logic in AFK/Crafting/Skill Vendor...makes no sense, do I really have to take my flag off to do these simple activities because of immature brats? Again, to me, that's fine, I'll kill them, but to others, it won't be and they will drop their flag and it'll just be the same people PvPing...

TL;DR: Don't we want MORE people to join us in PvP rather than LOSING people? We, the community, RIGHT NOW have the chance to set up some basic and simple quality of life rules. There's plenty of PvP action if people want it. It just shouldn't be at the Skills Vendor when points of not distributed or when people are AFK or crafting. IMHO;)

Im a Pk, always have been......I will attack you when you don't expect it, I will use every dirty trick in the book to gain there upper hand, given the opportunity I will rez kill you............ I really don't care for your personal outlook on etiquette.

But that means people should play by your rules..............I don't enjoy your rules, I play to my own.

I agree there is no PvP skill in Pking.....I do it because I can. When I choose to PvP I will do, and I will do it skilfully.

Also, Hostile PvP World? Really? It's Pre-alpha, and the Guards don't act. When they get into place, and PKing is halted 100% in cities, what then? What will the griefers do? Just go gank people that are grinding away (if flagged) or in a PvP zone. Cities aren't PvP zones (unless Player Own Towns (POTs) have it enabled. And it's NOT a PvP World, so maybe it's you that should re-educate yourself.

Do you even know what you're trying to argue? Have you even bothered reading all the posts (or mine since you seem to want to attack me). Do you not get what I am saying? If you don't understand, I can break it down for you.

I enjoyed Vajra's response more than yours. As for "my rules", no, I could care less. It just means that the griefers are going to scare away pre-alpha PvPers from the jump and make PvP less of an impact when it could be BIGGER if people had some etiquette.

I am all about REKTing people if they attack me at the Skills Vendor. If you don't crit me for 150+, you're going to die 5 secs later.

TL;DR: Barney style for Envy: If you and others want PvP to be at the forefront or at the very least close to PvE, you better get your act together and have some common sense. Griefers have ruined plenty of good games in the past. I don't this one to be another one.

Can we get that etiquette in FAQ form?

The /PvP flag does not come with a rule book. Some people have different forms of etiquette, like using healing potions is bad form. Why should anyone limit themselves to rules not enforced by the game?

You have probably read this... But just in case, I find this entirely relevant.
    http://www.uo.com/article/Memorable-Moments-Richard-Garriot

    The Thief
One day, early in the life of UO, I was participating as a GM and going to the aid of people who requested it. A note flashed across my screen from a woman, who said something like “Today is my first day trying to play UO, and every time I try to leave town a thief steals all my stuff, so I have to restart, and he does the same. If this continues I will quit and never come back to this game.” So I arrived in her presence as Lord British, not that she cared, she did not know or care who I was, and only wanted her problem fixed. I felt I was up to the seemingly simple task. I told her to come with me, and I would escort her out of town. As we left town, suddenly *ZIP* a thief flew across the screen at speeds I could hardly understand, and stole her gear and disappeared! I told her to wait here, as I teleported to try and get in advance of the speedy ruffian. When I finally froze him with a GM command, I revealed myself as Lord British, and told him to leave this poor woman alone, that this would drive away potential new players which we could not allow. Stop or else I would ban him from the game! He begged for forgiveness, and pledged to never do it to her again.
Satisfied, I returned the stolen items to the woman and told her, she should be safe now for at least a while, when *ZIP* the same thief came by again and stole all her items and disappeared. So, I chased him down a second time, and told him, hey, you had been warned, now I am going to ban you. He pleaded and pleaded and exclaimed how exuberance had overtaken him, and that he swore this time he would never do it again! Reluctantly, I believed him, and took the belongings back to the woman, again.
But then, for a third time, the same thief *ZIPPED* by… I froze him to the ground and told him, I was about to ban him! Then for the first time… he broke character, and refered to me out of character as well… “Look Richard Garriott”, he said, “You guys made the rules to this game, the rules include the role of thief, I am playing just as the role would be intended to be played. If the King tells a thief not to steal, of course he will beg for mercy and swear he won’t again. But what do you expect of me… I am a thief!”
After some thought… I agreed with him. So instead of banning him, I teleported him to the far side of the world. Then I gave the items back to the woman who could finally go about her business. After that, I began to think more carefully about the rules we ourselves put in the game, and the inevitable play styles that would come of it.

For the record, I stole this from another post here
