Release 48 Major Artifact Changes: Repair, Salvage, Enchant, Masterwork

    Artifacts will undergo a major refactor in Release 48 in order to better align them with the rest of the economy. In order to not have them directly compete with crafted goods they can no longer be repaired like regular items.

    Instead they will only be able to be repaired by salvaging other artifacts to get “Artifact Essences” that will be used in Artifact repair. This will cycle Artifacts out of the economy and require players to re-acquire them periodically or destroy other artifacts (thereby simulating “production”).

    Additionally we will make Artifacts a bit more dynamic by giving players the ability to enchant and masterwork them.

    ADDITIONAL NOTES:
    • Cabalist Gear (hoods and weapons) are becoming artifacts.
    • Dread Artifacts (Heart of Sorrows, Scepter of Dread, Bone Steel Crown) remain quest items and are not being changed by this.
    • No Gem Socketing (new 11/16/17): At this time Artifacts are not eligible for Gem Socketing. This is unlikely to change.
    • No Belts (new 11/16/17): Since belts do not yet exist in the crafting system artifact belts are not yet eligible for any enchanting nor masterworking. This will not change until belts can be crafted.
    • Max Repair via Crowns (new 11/17/17): After much feedback and consideration we are going to re-enable Max Repair via Crowns in an upcoming patch (watch the patch notes). Current Durability will still need to be repaired via Artifact Essences (not repair kits).

    This is great!

    The one improvement I would suggest however is that it becomes more and more costly to repair an artifact. That way you can't just burn up your least favorite (useful) artifacts to spare your favorite ones. So after you make one repair, now it's going to cost you two artifacts to repair that same artifacts. Then three, four, five, etc... Hopefully this is planned too?

    I'm guessing that it only repairs the minor durability.

    Why do all artifacts involve the Blacksmithing profession for repairs? How about some other professions have a shot? Maybe belts should be tailoring.
    The fact that you can Masterwork them now makes it matter what profession they fall into.

    I just noticed this today and actually I think that is a bug. Belts should be under tailoring.

    Once more you are taking items that elite players farm at will and give them a even greater boost????

    The guy that plays and works hard to get up in skills and gathers others to go out and work for hours / days / weeks to get one artifact, now has that one item less valuable since it is going to break and then needs another artifact which HAS to be broken it to repair one they might want to keep working ? ? ?

    Meanwhile those that sit around and have no problem cranking out a Dragons every 10 minutes (alone) and gets more chances and actually gets more artifacts . . . now has an even bigger edge since the one he care very little about now are worth more since they could be broken down and used to repair ones that actually mean something?

    All these items / artifacts / . . . . need to just be dumped and work on the imbalance that WAS the result of abusing a weak system that was let go awry.

    All the band aids in the world are not going to stop the bleeding out from that wound, try and cover it all you want . . .

    Bite the bullet, sorry that is the only solution, Then you can work on the fixes.

    This band aid is not going to do what is intended and will hurt players in general again.

    Now that normal Artifact drops will be at least 40% durability, I do hope there will be minor Artifacts with almost no durability that can be found in more trivial areas (like the gold ring from Fishing). That will provide a very small number that would primarily be used to salvage for essences.
