What if our walking speed on the overland map was adjustable? That way those that crave a slower pace, and those that crave a faster pace, can both be happy?

It's frustrating to hear suggestions like this.

It's a multiplayer environment, not a chat room, not facebook. If everyone isn't on the same playing field, they're not playing the same game.

It's like if we're playing football and you say "what if everyone on my team gets to run faster and is stronger because that's how we like to play?" The meaning of the "game' loses its value.

Frustrating to suggest choices? Very odd...

I wouldn't say it destroys the game for me, but it certainly makes me not want to log in and crawl at a snails pace on the overhead map. :(

More sewers coming soon. I'm a bit biased but yes, they are my favorite way to travel.
Speeds were 1.0, 0.66, 0.33 for roads, plains, and slow spaces respectively.
Patch that goes out this evening will be:
1.0, .8, and .66. In other words, double the speed of the slowest spaces. Bug already created to make sure all roads visually match up with terrain type data. In the long run we want to give people a reason to use the roads so we probably will crank those numbers back down some more in a release or two when other systems are in place.

More sewers  But Chris, I don't like using the sewers to travel :( I always get lost down there, even with a map

Strange, it seems to me that walking on the roads on the overland map does take longer now...

Don't understand your analogy to chat room and facebook, because ...... it makes no sense.

You're assuming I want faster map speed to create a competitive advantage, which I don't. I just don't want unnecessary impediments to playability.

Not to mention that if everyone had the SAME choices with respect to map speed, it would be a level playing field.

You can use this logic on everything.

I don't like grinding to level, I think it's boring. So why not give people the option to not grind at all and just automatically jump up to the next level whenever they feel like it? At some point the "game" has to have rules. There can't be an option for everything otherwise it's no longer a game and it's more of a social tool like Facebook.

That logic is horrible. Read above. I'm not going to debate this further. The sky is blue and the grass is green. Stop telling me they're other colors.

I think this is still game-damaging and the wrong approach. The speed up / slow down nature is rage inducing, even more so than random encounters, and players understand less of that speed logic than they do of REs.

Please keep the speed the same on terrain that doesn't require special gear to travel on or not severely affected by slope or weather-induced affects. Seriously, travelling on the road and plains and even most forests should not slow you down at all. Travelling across deep snowy fields (snow shoes) or swamps (swamp boots), etc. is where you should be slowed down (unless you have gear, perhaps). Just make the risk portion increased when travelling at night or off well-traveled roads. But for Oracle's sake, don't slow down the travel speed, again, unless special gear is required.

The logic that if everyone has the exact same choices it creates a level playing field? Yeah I must be crazy.

Baron, if you owned an ice cream shop, there would only be one flavor. Options are good things.

SMACK HAS SPOKEN! Changing all modifiers to 1.0 for this release. :)

We'll re-evaluate the slow down again once the data is fixed and other travel systems are in.

And it doesn't make the world seem bigger.... no matter what the speed is, the map is still SMALL.... I agree though, the walking is too darn slow. Pick up the pace a tad, just a tad for off road.

Oh but that would create an unfair advantage for the POTs, wouldn't it? I mean, to make it fair, we'd have to connect every POT with a sewer, wouldn't we? Poor devs!
