Yes you can copyright dance routines, but as long as there is some difference it isn't covered. Where the line for the amount of difference lands is hard to determine. But, as long as there are certain tweaks to the routine or they position stuff in a different order, they should be fine.

    Per Spoon:
Syncing animations between two NPCs (much less two players) is really difficult!
Well...only if both players should be able to control movement while doing so.
For a hug or a dance like Viennese Waltz that is not necessary since they can designate one participant to lead and the other to follow. Which means that you could implement one of many MMO tricks here.

    First the scenario:
Player A asks Player B to dance
Player B gets to [Accept or Decline] and accepts, since Player A asked it is the one that 'leads'
<<from this point Player B no longer controls any movements and is instead moved by Player A>>
The avatars gfx are no longer seperate but moved at the same time by Player A.
For Player B this can sometimes look like such lag skips as when you "follow" someone.
Player A then moves the dancing couple around the floor a couple of laps, both avatars doing the waltz animation.
Either player can abort the emote at any time, just like with regular emotes. This then returns movement control to Player B (which could lead to a small lag-skip).
If either is attacked or similar the pair-emote breaks.

I can see this is a dead old thread, but I wonder what has become of this? Last night I learned to dance the walz, and I was so disappointed to see how it is simply impossible to sync it so it actually looks good when two players dance together. Is there already the option to sync the dance moves, and I simply can't find it? And if there isn't, is it planned?

Great reminder. Not seen any updates or mentions after this. The emotes are there but the sync is not.

Thus we should give the devs another bump and ask them.
We have both dances, the hugs, the holdhands etc would be lovely if we can get them to sync in the gfx even if it is only an illusion on the client side.

If any of you have not yet posted your three topics for the R46 telethon then please feel free to do so for this dear question of ours.

Scroll down to the comment section and post it there. That way we are pretty much guaranteed a proper answer.

    Thank you again.

Not impossible, one needs to practise the timing. I've watched a couple of folks that do it very well @Stryker Sparhawk and @Lady Addy come to mind. Looks great when you get it.

    Hello there
yes it is all in the timing. I always wish we had a waltz twirl added to it though. It would add a lot to the dance imo. ;)

So happy to see this thread getting some more love again. Definitely interested to see @Chaox and the team sort out how to sync up dancing and emotes in general (still wating for that world's largest virtual conga line idea to happen here).
