    Question: This one is for Starr. Can we get a Cannibal town? [IMG]

      Perhaps an encampment more than town (unless you want to go evil twist that an underlying secret of a town appearing to be full of normal people is actually full of Cannibals) Patterned after the WENDOL of Norse lore…..”Eaters of the Dead” Bear people and Witch Doctors.
      Could be source of special recipes found on rare spawn Witch Doctors or decorative methods to preserve the human skull and/or body parts found on rare spawn Gatherers.
      These evil ones could perhaps appear only during certain cycles of the moon/sun/planets as that is when they are empowered and can leave the safety of their underworlds.
      Mountainous=Bear Worshipers
      Swamp = Gator Worshipers
      Plains = Snake Worshipers
      Forrest = Wolf Worshipers
      Jungle = BigCat Worshipers
      Snow = Travelling Caravan of Lost Stranded Souls (ie Donner Party)

      Or

      you could go the way of a Travelling Carnival of Bizzaro stuff…..including the people who run it.
      At night they become Cannibalistic on last night before they move on.
      Previous nights you can do various quests for “interesting” and “odd” rewards that make you think something weird is going on here.
      Carnival appears in different areas of Map every month.

    I could see those growling elves eating people :p But is it cannibalism if they are eating people, or must they eat other elves?...

    If you're eating something sentient it's more or less the same. Though I can't say I understand the obsession with cannibals. The game would be perfectly fine without them. Though so long as it isn't players doing it to other players or really in your face I suppose I won't complain.

    It is not an 'obsession' with cannibals. It is an artform where even from malevolence can untold beauty and depth emerge.

    I hope cannibalism makes it into Shroud.

    You'll pardon me if I disagree with that sentiment. Art and beauty are among the absolute last words I'd ever associate with cannibalism.

    There are so many things I'm going to choose not to say to that. Instead I will simply reiterate so long as there are no mechanics whereby players are cannibalizing other players and it isn't put in everyone's face. Then I won't have overly much to complain about.

    It is hard to have shock value in games. I don't mind if a game has mature or disturbing content, but I want it to be well written and handled well.

    Hmmm.... Cannibalism?

    How about for cursed food as something for evil cooks? The recipes can only be learned from NPC types such as what EmperorBorg suggested. The ingredients can only be harvested from fallen PvPers. That way it won't be as common & it gives something special for PvPing gatherers. The results of eating the cursed food last at least a half hour real time unless cured. NPC communities (unless it is a racial community of the affliction type) will kick out/kill anyone that are under such a curse & will not allow them to enter until the curse is gone, and POTs can be set that way too.
    • Eating human tartare (raw meat) changes a character into a ghoul.
    • Eating a giblet pie changes a character into an orc.
    • Eating bone bread changes a character into a skeleton.
    • Eating fried brains changes a character into a zombie.
    It would be a nice tool for those RPing that their character is one of those races. :)

    Which, once again, reminds me... ghouls > zombies.

    Sorry, I tend to think of the Victorian ghouls. Those weren't undead, but mad or possessed people that were cannibals and had a tendency to dig up & eat the flesh of corpses in graveyards.

    Zombies are similar, but are a type of undead with a preference for fresh brains. :)

    Actually, I enjoy getting away from demented things like people who abuse kids, and people who have a sick obsession with eating other people. The idea of it in the game definitely turns my stomach.

    The game is my escape into a cool world of adventuring, to leave behind the nasty things that go on in the world. Anyway, it doesn't sit right with me.

    I think cannibals are like PKs, and we shouldn't use this word on the forum cause its inherently... negative...

    We don't want situations like that in the game... laughs aren't allowed unless it has no implication like coconuts...

    chicken... chicken !!!

    *major pun*

    I will take the opportunity to reiterate and clarify my position on this. (Again???)

    Generally speaking.. I have no problem in dealing with harsh realities and subject matter.. SO LONG AS.. it is done in a mature and meaningful way. What I do have a problem with is dealing with such things in a gratuitous and/or immature manner.

    Unfortunately, this is also a subject that.. if players are allowed to engage in it themselves.. leads to situations where griefing is made easy and/or it's easily flaunted.

    Take cooking recipes for example. What's to stop anyone from selling brain pie on a public vendor? Or putting remains on display in their yard?

    Such a feature is something a player should have to opt into if they want to.. and not something they should have to actively try to avoid if they want nothing to do with it.
