Greetings Avatars! Things are still on track for the server move tomorrow. My checklist for the morning is over 100 items at this point, and one of those is a 240-step DB migration!
I’m targeting a 4 AM Central (CT) start, and I expect 6 to 8 hours of downtime. Progress updates will be posted on Discord and here on the website.
Almost everything has been tested, but there are a few things we’ve examined carefully and can’t fully test without the live shard being down. If we run into something insurmountable, no harm; I’ll document it, figure it out, and turn the old server back on for a day or two.
On the balance side, I’m aware that the change to taming skill costs means some people can no longer use their pets. I’m making a temporary change that lets people use higher-level pets than their level would normally allow, and we’ll leave it on through October.
As for the old patcher, once the migration is done and successful, I’ll release an update for it that directs people to the new patcher. You can also grab the new patcher now:
- Windows: https://patch.catnipgames.net/sota-win/launcher/ChaosShard-latest.exe
- Mac: https://patch.catnipgames.net/sota-osx/launcher/ChaosShard-latest.app.zip
- Linux: https://patch.catnipgames.net/sota-linux/launcher/ChaosShard-latest.tar.gz
After this past week’s performance work and cleanup, the new client is back to 60 fps in most places on a modern video card and CPU, and hitching is lower than it has ever been. If the new patcher gives you trouble, try running it as administrator; that fixed it for one new player. The Steam deployment is ready and has been tested.
