    Just my 2 cents: In UO poisoning (applying it to the blade) and alchemy (creating the actual poison) were skills you had to build. I liked the fact you couldn’t tell if an item was poisoned, it’s realistic. I really Loved the fact poison had it’s own skill depth in general and hope it’s implemented in SotA as it was.

    I’m all for being able to poison arrows as well (wasn’t in UO for some reason).

    However, something was mentioned about one being set on fire when getting struck by a blade? Not clear on how that would work.. With fire/burning, it seems realistic for only a glowing ‘sword of fire’ to achieve this. Or perhaps a sword could be set on fire/frozen through a spell? These type of ‘conditions’ should be treated differently than poison though.

    The stuff about swords taking on the name of who you killed sounds interesting.. but what if you are a mage.. or archer or if they died by other means? Also doesn’t prove “the last hit” or “only hit” for that matter was the said weapon. Swords taking on other people’s names and running around town just seems like it would provoke harassment. I’d be content with decomposing body parts (unless locked down in your house) seems more natural / all the proof one needs :)

    Markee suggested that he would like some visual indication that a weapon was going to do some sort of special damage. So, if you saw a guy waving around a sword that was dropping red sparks, you could assume it was going to do some sort of magic fire damage, or something along those lines. Of course, that would only really apply to melee weapons.

    One could assume if you saw a flaming arrow coming your way, you could expect some flame damage.

    A mage on the other hand, you can never tell what kind of evil they have up their sleeves. If they start casting a spell, and I see a ball of fire forming in the air, I could probably guess at what’s coming.

    Interesting point about who gets the kill. The one who did the most damage? The one striking the killing blow? My personal preference is greatest damage getting the kill.

    The weapons taking on player names? Don’t like that idea at all. Sounds silly.

    Why can’t the weapons just do damage? This fire, frost, sparkling, blah , blah , blah….it sounds like nonsense. Knowing what to expect from an encounter based on the color or sparkles of a weapon? Don’t like it.

    1. Gunga Din

      The weapon doesn’t have to have a TYPE of damage. It could have a property like Silver vs Undead, but lets not go overboard.

      Remember the weapons in UO, 30% fire , 30% poison damage etc. It made NO sense.

      You should join one of the roundtables, Gunga Din. You could contribute your ideas.

      I looked at this, and I see what you are saying.
      I agree that weapons can just do damage, and don’t necessarily have to do a type of damage. However, if there were types of damage, such as slashing, piercing, bludgeoning, and magic fire, frost, energy, etc., this would not be the first game to do so, and the idea is therefore not silly or even strange. Just a different approach.

      1. Gunga Din

        Slah, Pierce or Bludgeon would be types of maneuvers. I Think that could be used to help differentiate what different weapons achieved.

        What I thought was silly, was mainly weapons in UO that had their weapon damage broken down into 5 separate types (The different percentages).

        Once you start introducing the different types of damage, you then have to put in a whole system of varying resists into your armoring. This just junks up the system in my opinion. Keep it simple.

        1. Sir FrankSir Frank

          Yes. Introducing different types of damage does complicate various resistances of armor. I don’t think the idea is overly complicated, but I’m also not a programmer.

          We’re just brainstorming different ideas in the hopes of inspiring the devs.

          I do hope you can join us some Saturday.

            I can’t this sat but i’ll try another time. How do i go about getting on the show exactly? Also, thanks for bringing up the terms (slash, pierce) gave me a slew of ideas.

          2. Sir FrankSir Frank

            It’s a google hangout, so you’ll have to make a google+ account and install the hangout app. After that, it’s as simple as clicking on the twitch link up above. After Markee gets the stream up on twitch, he posts the link to the hangout, and we’re on.

    I hadn’t heard of Richard Garriott or Shroud of the Avatar before seeing Markee’s video of the announcement of SOTA Kickstarter. I looked into it and became a contributor to the game. Can’t wait for the Alfa. Thank you Markee.

    Weapons:

    Damage Increase (Ruin, Might, Force, Power, and Vanquishing);

    Weapon Skill Bonus (Accurate, Surpassingly Accurate, Eminently Accurate, Exceedingly Accurate and Supremely Accurate);

    Durability

    I kinda of have to agree with Gunga Din, I’m not a fan of any of these ideas: weapons taking on names of players you’ve killed and sparkle effects based on expected condition damage.

    There was some talk however about swapping weapon traits/skins. Reminds me of Guild Wars 2 transmutation. True, one should not be able to swap attributes from a one handed sword to a two handed halberd. Hopefully there will be more than 1 halberd skin though.
