I think it's more of the "mid drift" that seems a party issue more than the bust. If the men get to go topless and the females do not, then it seem only right to be able to cover the bust area with something more stylish than the underwear diaper styling.

When we think of time period styled clothing, it's worth mentioning about what those noble looks, looked like...
Blackadder styling? Both female and male dress that we currently have do not come close to such styling, yet we also wish to be a buyable modern gaming allure within they way we portray our chr's fashion, so diversity or refinement of our own likings by our mass considered opinions need to become more known and refined.

I don't really 'dig' into clothing variety and modernization. Wearing good looking armor and swinging a sword would do just fine with me, but I'd say no to ridiculously looking clothes - especially half-naked elvish armor or some sort - being posted on store.

I see that above comments have some nice medieval pictures depicting clothing styles. Store can have a bit more 'fantasy oriented' apparels. Just a bit oriented.

    And nothing else?

There definitely need to be lots of options - there will be people at either end of the spectrum who want their characters to either show a lot of skin or be almost completely covered, although most of us will likely fall somewhere in the middle. I do think it's very important that both genders have the same options, though - if the females can have skimpy clothing then the males also need to have something similar, perhaps barbarian-style 'loincloth' outfits (hopefully a little more than just a codpiece... ;) ). Maybe kilts too - I was shopping in my local Wal-Mart yesterday and saw a man proudly wearing the kilt whilst getting his groceries! There are bound to be some Scottish Avatars who'd like to bring one through the rift with them.

In the same vein, armour styles should be very similar for either gender... none of that nonsense where if you put normal-looking armour on a female it suddenly acquires bare thighs and a plunging neckline. From what I've seen so far in-game I don't think that's going to be an issue, and I presume they are or will be working on other designs for armour and clothing over the coming months. I definitely want to see lots of options for non-combat clothing like 'peasant outfits', posh dresses and suits, everyday wear, etc. (And I really hope that most will be available to make or buy in-game - and able to be dyed so we don't all look the same! - rather than having to spend real cash in the store like another game I could mention... ;) )

I wonder if it would be possible to code the NPCs to react to the way a person is dressed? If an Avatar is wearing a revealing outfit in a conservative village, perhaps some villagers would be reluctant to talk to them until they dress less scandalously?

    The Myth:
Casual sex, and even knowledge of how sex works, is a modern invention. During the heavily religious Dark Ages, sex was strictly forbidden outside of marriage, and every single person of consenting age (a term that was very loosely defined back then) led a life that was a never-ending squelch through a pool of their own sexual repression.

    The Reality:
You know those really goofy-looking shoes that men wore back then? The extra pointy ones, like something an elf would wear?

    Ziko
We'd still wear those over Heelys.
Well, those points are called poulaines, and apparently they were meant to directly represent the wearer's dong. And in a revelation that will come as absolutely no surprise to anyone even remotely familiar with the intricate relationship between a man and his wang, these points were sometimes so big that dudes couldn't walk up stairs. Good thing they were all wearing those elaborate codpieces to protect their actual dongs when their shoe-dongs tripped them up.
And the sexy didn't stop with their fashion.

Prostitution was a big friggin' deal back then. Although technically against the teachings of the church, everyone collectively agreed that if there were no hookers around, men would be out raping, just, everyone, because some of what you've heard about the Middle Ages wasn't a myth. In most medieval cities, prostitution was completely legal yet confined to certain districts and licensed by a town's mayor. The church even got in on this deal and licensed some holy brothels of its very own.

But let's not leave out the married folk. Since most upper-class marriages were political arrangements and the people getting married didn't necessarily like each other all that much, extramarital affairs were where it was at.
And man, did these people get down -- if you've ever watched a show like The Tudors and thought it was all sexed up for a modern audience, you were wrong.

One of the reasons that Eleanor of Aquitaine usurped her husband Henry II was because Henry II apparently had more mistresses than Tiger Woods. Seeing that getting in bed with the king was a good way to get ahead in life, daughters of lower nobility basically became escorts and tried to become the king's favorite mistress, which worked out pretty well for Anne Boleyn when she married Henry VIII and became Queen of England. Worked out pretty well, that is, until she was beheaded for allegedly banging too many people who weren't Henry VIII.

The Bible is very clear that you're only allowed three affairs at a time.

    Knights Were Honorable, Chivalrous Warriors

    The Myth:

Knights were gallant and brave warriors, charging into battle to slay the dragon and rescue the fair maiden.

    The Reality:

Knights often had less in common with this:

"We shall die for the glory of our randomly assigned piece of land!"

And more in common with this:

    Johan Ordonez/NBC News
    Wessex side.

Remember, knights were professional warriors, and when there wasn't a war to fight, they had to find something to do with their war-boners.

Most of these guys were relatively young and didn't have Call of Duty to satisfy their violent urges, so they tended to take it out on the local population. Toward the 11th century, many of the local lords started bickering over who would get a slice of the Holy Roman pie that Charlemagne baked, and the knights were at the forefront of these petty wars. These "wars" were less Braveheart-style epic battles and more knights rolling up into villages and slaughtering everybody.

The church tried to curb these conflicts, because frankly, they were nasty and threatened the stability of everything. First they tried to gather up all the knights and shake various body parts of dead saints at them, but when that didn't work, the Pope called the First Crusade and exported all these assholes to the Middle East, where they chivalrously ate babies and massacred the entire population of Jerusalem.

"Hey, the Pope said we wouldn't go to hell! No backsies!"

Later attempts were made to get these young 'uns under control, one being the chivalric code that was adopted around the 13th century. Examples like Sir Lancelot and Edward the Black Prince were raised to show knights how to behave in battle and in peace. Knights were encouraged to "defend the weak," but "the weak" was commonly interpreted as noble women and children, not peasants. So noble-on-noble violence may have decreased, but it was still totally cool for knights to kill and **** peasants, since, like those beers you had for breakfast, they didn't really count.

I hope we all agree, but every symbol about Knights is about Violence back then.

    BTW:

I am happy we have a bath tube.

Because another myth is the smelly people:

    Smelly People
    [IMG]

Myth: People didn’t bathe in the Middle Ages, therefore they smelled bad
Not only is this a total myth, it is so widely believed that it has given rise to a whole other series of myths, such as the false belief that Church incense was designed to hide the stink of so many people in one place. In fact, the incense was part of the Church’s rituals due to its history coming from the Jewish religion which also used incense in its sacrifices. This myth has also lead to the strange idea that people usually married in May or June because they didn’t stink so badly – having had their yearly bath. It is, of course, utter rubbish.
People married in those months because marriage was not allowed during Lent (the season of penance). So, back to smelly people.

In the Middle Ages, most towns had bathhouses – in fact, cleanliness and hygiene was very highly regarded – so much so that bathing was incorporated into various ceremonies such as those surrounding knighthood. Some people bathed daily, others less regularly – but most people bathed. Furthermore, they used hot water – they just had to heat it up themselves, unlike us with our modern plumbed hot water. The French put it best in the following Latin statement: Venari, ludere, lavari, bibere; Hoc est vivere! (To hunt, to play, to wash, to drink, – This is to live!)

Just wanted to say that the more i look into the medieval history , and the arguments brought up to stick to medieval history, the more i find it silly.

Everyone who is currently at knights pledge level hopefully will play based on our childish fantasy and not based on history.

There is still something to be said about many possibilities of enhancing the feminine qualities of what can be modestly worn, but racy in it's display of femininity, yet practical for the time period.
Also the need for variety within the different worldly cultures could provide a more feminine enhancement to their wardrobe.
To reveal is not the only way to enhance a woman's female beauty or their sexuality sex appeal.

    arrrrgggg!!!... Yuk!

 Looks like a Law Librarian threw up dull red, blue and brown puke all over the page and that was on a well lit Sunshiny day  I'm sorry, but our New Britannia world looks old, dingy and in bad need of the wearing of much brighter colors :( It's just as dull as a full wooden den with the shades drawn in morning for a favorite dog that died to become stuffed by the entire family that day o_O

I could only hope that it was about to rain that day to help wash off all those peasant's dirty cloths
Personal hygiene for SotA -10 to -20% "Kudos Not" ... so sad and sexy not, or at least until those people all take a bath "with soap"... OMG all those poor people... :(

    The current dressings for females:

Some have said it reminded them from the way it is cut on this:

So , as i love fashion, i went through the above discussions and currently searching for the compromise. :)

The dressings for the females that almost all say : Good! ( no matter what camp you are in)

So i give it a try gain.

    The requirements are:

    1. Medieval or Renaissance direction.
    2. Not to sluty
    3. Not to shy
    4. creatable out of max 3 pieces ( as this is how Sota works?)

Found a lady artists with some casual medieval ( at least the direction of ) styling a little more outgoing, but still i think not going to far?

First some that are just normal dress but just are much more apealing, the red alternative:

    [IMG] [IMG]

Then we had the little gibsy direction some talked of before. This goes a little into that direction:

Actually with the current dress they have ingame, it is not the colors of the dress that is the problem.

It is the way it falls. :)

Umm....don't get me wrong, I like attractive clothing as much as the next person, but about those naked dancers......lol. Those are mostly guys. One in particular, in some of those screenies you mentioned has made no secret about being a guy. :)

In fact, the minute I see a character running around naked or in underwear, I generally just assume it's a guy and probably wouldn't believe him if he said he was really a girl. lol. It's been my experience in these games that the vast majority of those "females" who are constantly "flaunting" it and trying to make a spectacle of themselves, are actually guys.

Sure, a lot a gals enjoy running around scantily clad if it's attractive, but just flaunting it for the sake of flaunting it, or dancing naked or in ugly underwear, not so much. Lets face it, most "real" gals as a rule, enjoy ornamentation and looking attractive. But it's guys as a general rule, who want to see naked, or near naked females all the time, even it it's ugly old white underwear. Even if we get sexy cloths, a lot them will still dance naked or near naked. lol

I'm all for good looking clothing options for casual wear if it fits the time period. For armor I have mixed feelings. I definitely don't like the idea of near-naked armor supposedly protecting a fighter. But if someone wants to fight near-naked, fine, just don't give the same protection as full armor. Cloth armor, semi-magic protection, sure why not.

edit: Wanted to add that I have no problem with the cloths we currently have in the game. I actually like some of them. I'd like to see more, but I don't hate any of what we have so far.

Kuno i love when you make posts.
You just did ad such a quality post to this thread. Thank you for the insights.

In someway i am having a real hard time with this thread in overall.
I regard clothing and its expression at least as important as housing or pvp is for the game.

But as this subject tends to leads always to gender specific assumptions of motivation or just plain extreme camps of arguments it is hard to carry on.

Diversity will be at the end the magic word.
