There is a reason they are not as popular with those that aren't pot owners. Its because they are great for them...not so great for everyone else. IMHO

You have to hear that message or you will not understand why people have issues.

    NPC towns need them too.

I thought I was going to come back and read about how the OP's map was unrepresentative of the actual map (which I'm aware how you created it Razimus), but instead I find a personal argument.

To stay on track, I think a map with dots more to scale with an actual hex size would not misrepresent the PoT situation. By using larger dots, it skewed perception and (perhaps inadvertently) supported the idea that PoTs were "cluttering" the landscape.

Btw, for clarity, I mean expand the size of the in-game map. ;) It would make traveling longer but would make the wilderness feel less crowded out.

Are you sure you want to eat something that has the word "Bubonic" in its name? :p

How in the world does this feel crowded?

    Agree!

The way I see it, POTs are privately owned and ruled, the other game players have no rights or security when living on the land other then the PoT owners integrity, which in online games is hit and miss. Because of this, I want to have the option available to see or hide them depending on what my plans for the session are.

First, not a good example. Zoomed in really close in an area with mountains.

Second, more POTs are coming to the game.

Third, I see the map as not a "map" but a kind of representation of a real view from the player, where the limits of what I can see is what I would be able to see in the real world. I see mountains in the distance, towns in the distance on the horizon, etc. If I see several towns in the distance, just comparing to reality, the world feels crowded.

Find me an example...anywhere..you're choice. I can't make your case for you.

I say your example doesn't exist and this is a non-issue created by people that just don't like POTs regardless of what the mechanics are.

Even in that screenshot, I can see three towns at once (two beyond the mountains). That means it's crowded as far as I'm concerned. But, yea, I could make the case even better with other screenshots.

To expand on this, I feel more connected to the game when I'm zoomed in on my character running on the map. I think the smaller the avatar compared to landscape and limiting the zoom out makes it feel less like a map, but also helps me appreciate the details and terrain, and stay immersed in the experience.

I know those are all subjective statements, but they are based in objective truths about using actual human perspective to make a game seem more real.

Yep, but the zoomed in view is a bit too close for a real travel view, where you should expect to be able to see things in the distance. Hence, why I think the map should be enlarged, with everything more spaced out, so you could have the same effect but with seeing a greater distance.

I can't believe you're saying this. I don't think there are even 3 POTs in that screen shot! :)

The names certainly aren't there. Clearly you're more sensitive to this than I am. To me they don't even exist until I see the name pop up.

I didn't say POTs; I said towns. Meaning, it already feels crowded even without the POTs.

Oh I guess N. Valeyway isn't a town. But I can get you some screens to show my point.

    We're talking about POTs though.

We can't throw out POT visibility because people only want to see "NPC towns", that's just silly. Especially when you look at that screen shot, and I would say ANY screen shot.

I'm confused. If the overland map is meant for traveling from one "town" to another, how can it be over populated?
