Aggregating Vendor requests

    I keep seeing great suggestions for our vendors coming up in different threads. In an effort to put these all in one place to ease the lives of our Devs, I'm compiling a list.

    Most of these aren't from me. I'm linking to other threads that I found for reference.

    I'll edit this first post with new suggestions I missed, so please comment. Try to make the suggestions very concise.

    • Stocking
      • Make Tabs (Buy, Sell, etc) Dockable/Undockable
      • All tabs and windows in the vendor UI need their own Search Field.
        • Button next to each Search Field that propagates what is written there across all currently visible Search Fields.
      • Create functionality for one handed speed listing (see below)
      • Sell partial stacks
      • Stack identical items (identical books for example)
        • This is going backwards with new furniture, which is no longer stackable.
      • Multi-drag and set same price for all
      • Multi-Drag Item removal
      • Remove all of my items (Right click option on vendor?)
      • Drag items to vendor in Buy pane
      • Define sets (ex. sell entire Elf Fighter Armor set, set of all artifacts, or matching dual weapons)
        • A way to do this may be to sell bags of items, with all items inside counting against the vendor item limit
      • Save sell tab (save us hours of time)
        • "Save" button saves items, stack sizes, and prices
        • Sold out or partially sold out stacks (when that comes) are still visible to seller, but in red
          • "Refill All" button checks your inventory and refills everything it can find at the previous price
          • Small "Refill" icon only visible to Merchant next to each item, same functionality but per item
            • Both: Consider pulling inventory from bank as well
      • Less desirable alternative to Save:
        • Batch relist items and orders from receipts (see page 3 of comments)
          • Drag receipts to window, successful relist deletes receipt
      • Price can be edited by clicking in the price field, typing, pushing Enter
        • Once partial stacks becomes available, stack size editing needs to be as well.
          • This will check inventory and add to stack size if you're increasing, or push items back to inventory if you're removing
      • Sales. Specify and show sale percentage near top of UI. Check box click to put item(s) on sale. Indicate sale items to customers with text color or old price/sale price (requires extra column.)
      • When "Transaction" (Manage Inventory or Manage Sales Orders) is launched, put cursor automatically in the first field so we can immediately type instead of moving the mouse to select that field
      • Tab to "Sign" so mouse isn't needed.
      • Make popup transaction window movable
      • Remove autofill in Quantity field of create Buy Orders when backspacing (probably a bug).
      • Enter in Price field signs for transaction
      • Create Auctions, set Length and Starting Price
    • Communication/Aesthetics
      • Consider shrinking the screen space of, or collapsing "Proposed Exchange" until there is a proposed exchange, and/or adding a slideout button >>.
      • Consider rolling Manage Inventory into Buy and Manage Orders into Sale.
      • Right click -> add to (specific) vendor for decorations in the building
      • Resizable left pane (or both,) so item names don't get cut off
      • Visible way to determine if vendor has purchase orders, what item types
        • Mouse over could show buy/sell numbers
      • Message of the day in vendor window or chat. Replaces the need for notes to communicate with customers
      • Vendor barks specified by players, or random item + price, or sale item + price (see Sales above.)
      • Speed up signing, or let us choose a 3 letter speed signature.
      • Owner sets default sorting method
    • Data
      • Time of sale, which vendor by ID, item by ID (unique for gear,) and town
      • Books (possibly other items) need more details about the item sold. Book names, for example.
      • Data export as .csv or similar
      • Add Sale/Order Fulfilled information back to chat window/log
        • Sale
          • Time, item, quantity, price, vendor ID, town, unique item ID
        • Order fulfilled
          • Time, item, quantity, price, vendor ID, town
      • Add a "Recent Transactions" Tab
      • Weekly and monthly accounting reports
      • Combine receipts into in game ledger
    • Tools for multi-user vendors
      • Ability to remove peoples listings without banning them from the lot
      • Manage Inventory & Manage Orders need to show all listings, not just mine, so we can list at the same price and/or not duplicate listings.
        • Other players listings should be grayed out with an option (checkbox) to hide/unhide.
      • Optional item number limit per user
      • Optional listing time period
      • Owner can send items back to bank
      • Optional restrict user to either Buy Orders or Sales
      • Shared stacks, round robin sales
        • Ex. Stack of 1000 ore made by 800 of mine, 150 of Viola's, 50 of Tangstra's. 200 purchased means 75 of mine, 75 of Viola's, and all of Tangstra's sold.
        • Vendor owner sets price, each listee specifies minimum they will take. If price falls below that their stock is returned to the bank
      • Filter/sort by seller
      • Rent/commission functionality
        • Owner specified
        • Voluntary user commission sent to Avatar of their choosing
      • Discounts to/or sell item(s) only to Guildmates
    • For Customers
      • Durability column in Equipment
      • Filters: hide known recipes, crafting tree specific, exceptional, magic tree, enchanted/masterworked or not (enchanters need masterworked items, but not enchanted)
        • Advanced search symbols such as |, -, etc
      • Wish list functionality
      • Checkbox: Keep search term between vendors
        • Note: The search term does stay if open the next vendor without closing the first
      • Ask town crier for item, vendors who carry it are pinged similar to how vacant lots can be pinged by holding "P"
      • Show vendor name next to lot owner name on town crier. Ctrl mouse over to see multiple vendor names on one lot, or owner sets a single name for the lot.
    • Manage Orders
      • Save buy order tab (save us hours of time)
        • "Save" button saves items, stack sizes, and prices
        • Fulfilled or partially fulfilled stacks (when that comes) are still visible to merchant, but in red
          • Small "Refill" icon next to each item, visible to merchant only
          • "Refill All" button at bottom of window
            • Both check your gold and if you have enough performs refill
              • If you don't, throw an "insufficient funds" message
      • Less desirable alternative to Save:
        • Batch relist items and orders from receipts (see page 3 of comments)
          • Drag receipts to window, successful relist deletes receipt
      • Add missing crafted items including components
      • Flag order as "Fulfill completely" or "Partial fulfillment allowed"
      • Partial Buy Order fulfillment
      • Orders for Weapons and Armor, sellers can fill order with anything that exceeds specified stats.
      • One handed listing
      • Method for limiting maximum amount one person can fill in purchase orders of a specific material (probably time locking).
      • Price and quantity can be edited by clicking in the appropriate field, typing, pushing Enter

        • Price should be Price per item, which will facilitate moving to partial buy orders
      • Delete multiple orders
      • Pushing "Enter" in Price field signs for transaction
    • Locate Vendor Items interface (at the bank)
      • Add price of items
      • When sorting by vendor location, secondary sort by item name
      • Add a "Buy Orders" tab
    Example of one handed speed listing setup:
    • Arrow keys Up/Down within players inventory to move the highlight.
    • Page Up/Down move the highlight farther.
    • Arrow Left/Right in inventory act the same as dragging the item to the sell window.
    • Arrow keys move between fields and buttons when transaction window has focus.
    • Enter activates buttons.
    • Number keys function as normal.
    • Stocking
      • Charge commission after sale on commissioned vendors
      • Transfer Vendor in Property Manager (no need to restock)
      • Increase item limit
      • Current stock
      • Save Vendors specifically in Magic Mover
        • No need, just put vendor in your inventory and carry around
    • Communication/Aesthetics
      • Visual vendor customization
        • Temporary possibility: patterns
      • Visible way to see a vendor has been updated recently, is empty
      • Town Crier or Overland mouse over indication of number of vendors and/or sales volume
      • Increase dark area size and opaqueness behind tabs for readability on light backgrounds
      • Change "This vendor is empty" during item loading to "Let's see what I've got for you" while loading, and "Sorry, I'm out of stock" if empty.
    • Data
      • Time of sale, town
      • Fix "Good News" dialog at login so we can see if it was more than one identical item sold. (Deprecated)
      • Data export
      • Data available as journal in game (Done, in mail)
      • Audio queue, and more visual (chat is easily missed,) that a sale has been made while in game
      • Add Sale/Order Fulfilled information back to chat window/log
        • Time, item, town,
    • Tools for multi-user vendors
    • For Customers
      • Default to buying 1 in stack (no more accidental 1000 chunks of coal) for Player and NPC vendors
    • Manage Orders
      • Indicate presence of Buy orders in UI

    The second was mentioned by @Tiina Onir, and at first I was not sure that it was a needed change.... until I just tried to do exactly that several times today when first opening my vendors.

    Also wanted to reiterate that being able to tell whether vendors have been updated is rapidly becoming a big deal. There are lots of dead vendors out there, and I find myself wishing that I could put a giant red X across them in my screen so I wouldn't keep checking them. This is bad for neighboring vendors, and whole towns, because when people get frustrated at no change with the first few vendors they (I) just stop checking all of them in the area/town.

    At the moment the user workaround is putting the date of restocking in the vendor name, but that's immersion breaking because it's not New Britannia time.

    Thanks for the shout out.

    That's a really comprehensive list! I really think with some UI improvements we can increase the likelyhood of a player-driven economy being successful.

    I would like to place an order for a specific crafted item and a buy price, the vendor would accept and give money for anything that fit the minimum stats I set for the purchase order.

    Would be great to have some type of visual indicator of what kinds of things the vendor buys or sells. They could put a sash on vendors (like the Miss America sash that goes diagonally across the chest) and allow the player to select up to three icons on it to symbolize the types of thing they are buying/selling. Or to make it easier to see from farther away, give vendors a pole tat they hold which has a vertical banner running down it.

    While we do have signs already, I think they have a long way to go before they are more than barely useful. In case it doesn't happen in signs (where it should probably be, even as you've mentioned with the pol or banner) I've added it above.
    • Added "Item types" to vendor visual representation.

    has the dev team committed to a release to do any of this work yet? the commerce features in the game are terribly rudimentary for players right now.

    A deterrent to switching houses is having to relist 100 items per vendor.

    @Berek in the telethon @DarkStarr said we could get sale information back in the chat log. While you are working on it, here's 2 things that would be really handy to have added to the information we get:

    New items in RED
    • Item or stack With GameOject ID so we can differentiate between crafted items
    • Price
    • Town
    • Unique Vendor/GameObject ID of the point of sale because we have multiple in one town and their names change
    • Sold by/Placed by
    • Purchased by/Fulfilled by
    • Date & Time
    If you don't want big long numbers in the Bill of Exchange I get that, but they would sure be nice if they showed up in the log file.

    Why didn't you put container with stuff in it.
    This would alleviate the need for specialized logic for sets and stuff, you could fill a bag with items, vender can only sell stuff directly on him (i.e. the bag with contents) but you should be able to browse the bag.

    And while we're at it, containers in containers also in inventory!
